Mass Effect Andromeda - Yuck

I, um, pretty much never finish a game. Several of my most played ones don't really have a finish line and the others just get rotated out after a few days. I may pick them up again later but probably not. Here is a brief list of games I should have finished but didn't for reasons I guess.

Witcher 3
Batman, all of them except Asylum I finished that one years ago.
Fallout 4
Skyrim
Shadow of Mordor

All of those were good games that I really liked for a few days until I was distracted by something else and never went back. I am way down on my hours but I do still put in about 30 hours a week.

None. Nearly all my playing was in a few weeks here and there of World of Tanks, Spellweaver, some Subnautica... played a bit of games like Grimrock II and Vaporum... I don't really finish games I guess.

I remember 25 years ago I finished Menzoborazzen (sp) and that Raymond Feist RPG, the first of two I think. I played Mass Effect this year, and am toward the later part... might finish that.

First Plays:-
A Hat In Time
Cuphead
Death's Cold Embrace (Thief 2 Mod)
Divinity Original Sin 2
Party Hard
Pinstripe
Prey (2017)
Road to Gehenna (Talos Principle DLC)
Shardlight
Styx Shards of Darkness
The Inner World 2
The Turing Test
Thimbleweed Park

Replays:-
Age of Empires 2
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Baldur's Gate 1-2: EE
Banished
Bioshock 1-3
Contrast
Crookz The Big Heist
Deus Ex 1 & 3
Dishonored 1
Don't Starve
Neverwinter Nights 1
Planescape Torment: EE
Portal 1-2
Sam & Max Hit The Road
The Cave
Thief 1-3
This War of Mine

In short, mostly Indie's & Golden-Era replays. Prey (2017, Bethesda) aside, it's been a remarkably sorry year for new AAA's with literally zero purchases from "the big three" (EA, Squeenix, Ubisoft). In fact I'm fast coming to the conclusion that "middle-weight" devs (Larian, CDPR, etc) pretty much are the new premium-quality-feel AAA's, and the only thing left that's "AAA" about the pay2win / pay2degrind / MT / lootbox cr*p by larger publishers are the marketing budgets...

My favorite and the only game i've played this year was, SteamWorld Dig 2.

Like others have said, I didn't like any of the AAA titles this year, and the fact is, some indie developers make fantastic games.

Wow I didn't realize spacehulk was FPS, I thought it was another RTS. So that's on the list for eventually . What other WH40k games should I be looking at? I already played the Space Marine game from a few years ago.

Rather meager list that i have. I do not play as often as i would like.
I also like only a specific kind of games.

My 2017 list:
Doom 2016.
Wolfenstein : new order.
Wolfenstein : Old blood.
And i am about to finish Bioshock infinite later on or within 3 days.

Doesnt matter. Games are for playing, not beating. Same reason movies are for watching, not ending. The joy comes from what you do, not whats over.

Also: Forza Horizon 3.
Started on Xbox. Completed all Championships on Windows.

I'd say Spacehulk Deathwing is the only one right now. There's supposed to be WH40k: Inquisitor (diablo-esque) but I wasn't impressed by the previews I've seen so far.

BFG is kind of unimpressive. The campaign isn't anything too special, and the fleet size is capped so small. Each mission is (relatively) repetitive too.

Haven't tried DoW3 yet, but I wasn't impressed by the MP beta. Graphically was nice, but it kind of felt like the worst of DoW1/2 rather than the best.

The Total War WH40K games are always getting praised, though I haven't tried them yet. Sega doesn't like their games going on sale.

As for me, the only one on PC that I can remember completing this year is Hollow Knight which was an astounding game. All the rest I completed were older console games. I guess I can toss Grim Dawn in the PC completion list, but considering how many builds I have left unfinished, I don't consider that to be completed, even though I've beaten the main story countless times.

Edit: I forgot I beat Far Cry 4 earlier this year.

Games I beat:
Wolfenstein II

Games that were such lazy console ports I got a steam refund:
Metal Gear (I got heckled by fanboys on this one for pointing out I got a refund due to it being a super lazy console port to the point the devs didn't even bother changing the onscreen control prompts from the Xbox controller ones. Regardless of whether you are using a keyboard or not)

Dragons Dogma (I got heckled by fanboys on this one for pointing out the port was so lazy there was no mouse support for the menus and they were nearly impossible to navigate without a lot of trial and error. Fanboys advised me to just spend an hour doing trial and error then you can save the resolution settings you want to play at. I guess I have a low tolerance for crap console ports?)

Games I started playing but got bored of:
Prey (2017)
Shadow of Mordor
Mass Effect Andromeda

I probably played a few other games as well. Maybe.

I still tried to finish mass effect (The first game). Although i like it, i now fully understand to my despair why everybody calls it the elevator game.
No game takes that long to load another level on the pc.
And those elevators take so much time, it is like going from the ground floor all the way up to the 160th floor.
Definitely not a turbolift from startrek.

I'm trying to think of the last storyline game I played and beat. I guess Mass Effect 3 or GTA 4 in whatever years those came out. I don't really play those types of games anymore. I tried playing the new Doom and hated it, especially the level editor. I was hugely into the first two originals and the new one just didn't sit well with me. Fortunately Steam let me return it.

When it was first released, they intended for most people to use a controller, but included hotkeys for people who wanted to use a keyboard and mouse, but they forgot to change the UI to be compatible with a keyboard and mouse. I played this an easy 1,000+ hours on the PS3 before playing it on the PC and I ended up just using the keyboard for the menus. If you try to use a mouse, you're going to end up frustrated. I actually prefer to play it using a keyboard and mouse simply for the hotkeys and manual aiming (loved my Magic Archer).

I was just over it by that stage. So I got a refund. :)

Did you try the game with a controller? It's actually one of the very few PS3 games that are worth getting a PS3 for and I'm amazed they brought it to Steam. Though they did bring it to PC a few years too late, but it was nice seeing it with updated visuals and the option for hotkeys (constantly going into the menu for everything was a bit obtrusive but I got used to it after a while).

If I had a controller I would have tried it. Also steam started coming out of my ears then I rage refunded and almost quit the internet. :)

Huh??? I played this with keyboard/mouse and it didn't seem that bad at all. I can't remember when I played (several years ago) relative to the release but i don't remember keyboard/mouse having any issues at all (I think I use arrow keys for menu but that was the only thing).

Now darksoul i could never get very far - the keyboard/mouse interface is just awful (esp selecting skills menu to switch spells during fights).

Tomb Raider 2 (1997) - suffers from not enough regular plot progression during the game
Tomb Raider Legend - suffers from awful control system and the most awful dialogue
HL2, EP1 & EP2 - A good fallback from time to time
XCOM Enemy Within - I just hate the chryssalid level.
XCOM2 - My favourite from the modern XCOM games.
Deadpool - Enjoyable and juvenile fun.
Witcher 3 + expansions -My favourite recent-ish game.
Dragon Age Inquisition - a bit meh and pales in the shadow of W3.
