Games worth a new GPU in 2014?

Am in the same boat OP. Switched from 7970 to 780 for free thanks to LiteCoin miners
Already beat Crysis 3 and 2 in the last 3 months, so not sure what's next.

myself I find hot deals from Steam more interesting than latest games. It is like not having money for cable and watching the shows one season late. Nothing wrong with it as long as you have plenty to keep you busy.

My stock 3570K and 7870 are still going strong @1600x1200. Of course I disable things like DoF and Bloom/HDR as they annoy the crap out of me. I also rarely use AA as it really doesn't do anything for me.

Same here, I can tell a difference between AA and no AA in screen shot but I generally cannot tell a difference while playing (at 1680x1050)

Time to get that prescription checked for glasses. Anyone with even remotely 20/20 vision can and should see anti aliasing clearly in motion and in still images. Its an incredibly obvious effect as we are no where near the limits of human vision with the pixel density of todays screens. Honestly if AA isn't easy to see its time to take a trip to the opticians.

Sorry, I was a bit ambiguous with my wording. I can see aliasing, it just doesn't bother me much. For me it's basically trading jagged lines for blurry lines.

This is more or less what I meant too, yes I can see a difference but during game play I don't really perceive those differences all that much. It doesn't add anything to the experience.

I don't think there is much of a point until the high end 20nm gpus start shipping. Nothing out right now really needs it, and only incremental improvements on the current process.

GPU manufacturers could really use LCD-monitor builders to get 4k monitors down in price.
Other than more pixels, I'm not sure what's going to require any higher end GPU's in during this console generation.
(Excepting the infrequent PC high end exclusives.)

I am running a pair of 6870s and running 5760x1080 in eyefinity.

Some games I have to turn graphics down a bit.
But, anything that supports eyefinity plays acceptably well for me at that resolution in med or high settings (most games I can max out AA/AF and all options at that res).

6950s are a good bit faster vs my 6870s. If you are doing gaming at 2560x1600 or 2560x1440, or if you are doing it at any lower of resolution, then IMO it's not worthwhile to upgrade for a while yet.

If you happen to upgrade to a 4K display, or if you are running eyefinity with 3 or more monitors, then, I think you would see some significant gains in performance... (I'm on the fence here, since I suspect 1080p Oculus Rift or some other product will remove my desire for eyefinity... and I think my 6870s will be plenty fast for many years to come when it comes to gaming at 1080p.)

unless watch dogs is horribly ported to the PC, I can't imagine you need a beast machine to run a PS4/Xbone game

VR. Low persistence monitors. Both require very high frame rates to be effective.
