I either don't have the option or if I do and change it to 1280x1024 the screen is off and doesnt fit my monitor. I have a Envision 775E 17" and XP drivers installed. Also have a Ti4200 128mb.

try downloading a refresh fix program... if the refresh rate is off, your monitor may get confused... /me heads back to OT

I've read that resolution is a problem for some games, especially older ones, even with more modern cards. I haven't read anything about any workarounds besides looking for game patches or letting the LCD do its scaling.

Does in Desktop but it doesnt fit the screen. Unless I adjust it with my monitor control.

So the desktop 1280x1024 has the same problem as the game 1280x1024? If so, then just adjust it so it fits the screen.

You might need to do it twice, because the settings may be different for desktop and game. For desktop, you could be running at 1280x1024 @ 85mhz... so you make adjustments for this.

But when you're in a game, the game could be running the resolutions at 1280x1024 @ 60mhz, so you would need readjust the monitor (but your monitor should remember the settings for 60mhz after that).... or you could enable in your video settings for your desktop resolution/refresh rate to override your game settings (some videocards/drivers do this differently).

A lot of games just don't support 1280x1024, which is dumb with all the lcd's that have that native resolution.

Sometimes you can go into the game's config.ini file, and manually edit the resolution to fit your monitor's resolution-I had to do that for Il-2:FB 'cause it doesn't support 1280x1024 either. And I have a 19" Envision LCD w/native of that res.

That left me with about .25" of blank space at the top and bottom of monitor while playing, but that doesn't bother me at all.

If you have an ati card, you can do that by running it at 1280x960 and disabling "Scale image to panel size" on the displays tab of the ati control panel. Probably can with an nividia card too.
