There is a good chance that I might be getting sent to the middle east, and if so, I'm going to need something to occupy my time. So I'm looking for either a portable system (ala PSP or PS2 with a screen) and some games that will take me a while to play.

I've got on my list so far a PS2 with the carrying bag, memory card, and FF7, 8, X, X-2. I'm looking for suggestions. And anyone suggesting Google, GFY.
 
Funny, as I thought this should have been in Off Topic, on account as it has nothing to do with fvcking computer games, as I won't have my fvcking computer over there...
 
I'd suggest FF IX and Xenogears. If you're looking for older FF games, try the Anthology or Chronicles.
 
Looks like it just says "Games" to me... no "Computer" in front of it.

Either way, how about Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger? Twisted Metal 2 (finish it with everyone)? As for more up-to-date, any of the GTA games take some time.

The Ratchet series (especially 2 and 3) can also be fairly long for the genre.
 
THanks ya'll. I don't play the console games at all. I just played (and beat) FF-X while I was in school for training in Virginia, and that's it. I don't even know if we will have TVs over there, so I'm going to get one of those screens too I guess. Yeehah.

i turn up the AI a lot, so its tough.. 🙁 i lost conf. finals after throwing up 5 picks with big ben

FF games are great, get 9 too it's good fun. Gran Turismo 4 is very fun if you're a car enthusiast, notice though it's alot more realistic and slower than your typical arcade style racing game, but the career mode makes it feel more like an RPG. Lots of fun to be had there... If you like beat-em ups at all, Soul Calibur 2 is awesome, there's an RPG style mode in it as well, and the two player mode is a hell of alot of fun if you ask me, make sure to bring two controllers. Beat em ups are good for multiplayer because you don't need to split the screen!
