I have finally assembled the system rig in my sig, and now I need some games to go with it. I am going to pick up ~4 now, and add a couple more in the next year. I haven't had a computer that can do anything for about 4 years now, so my previous games were Baldur's Gate II, HL1, UT.

I am open to suggestions on what is the good games in thouse veins now. I am leaning toward

BF2

NWN platinum edition (all three expansions)

Half-Life 2?

Doom3?

Thanks for any advice!

If you like first-person shooters, then HL2 and BF2 are highly recommended. I wouldn't bother with Doom 3, personally (nice engine, mediocre game). If you're looking for a good single-player RPG, Knights of the Old Republic II is great. :)

Cool, cool. Thanks! I had the same feelings about Doom3. It seemed like a really interesting game, but a lot of comments recently have been painting it as unreplayable and non-multiplayer friendly.

I am looking forward to seeing reviews of Quake4 later in the year.

This was a lot of fun, even though the story element is weaker than BG2, closer to Icewind Dale.

Also there are piles of free user-made single-player and party modules for NWN, I'm playing the "Sands of Time" module for level 25 characters now.

Chronicles of Riddick is cheap now and is supposed to be quite good.

Call of Duty rocks ... and even better if you like science fiction shooters, grab Chronicles of Riddick, it is brilliant. HL2 is a given, as should be a stab at Far Cry. That should keep you going for a few months ... :)

Oops, I meant to reply to this thread from home, maybe I'll remember to tonight. I need to check when certain games came out to get a better idea of what you are missing.

Star Wars Republic Commando.

Yes unfortunately its Star Wars but its one of the rare good ones. A different take on an FPS. Very accomplished and I cant think of a game like it.

Just to be clear, the expansion to Call of Duty is COD:United Offensive. Brothers in Arms is a completely different game, and not worth buying, IMHO.

Going from Q2 to BF2 covers the FPS Multiplayer ground. You really arn't missing much from anything else. I havn't enjoyed multiplayer FPS in a long time, but I'm really enjoying BF2. So now you will probably want to focus on single player games. I think you've missed some really good SP games, Doom3, HL2, Thief3... please tell me you played Deus Ex? Painkiller was good. This is just glossing over FPS single player experiences.

No one has mentioned Guild Wars? If you liked Diablo at all, it is quite similar to that. EIther way very well done game.

For FPS I'd recommend HL2 and Far Cry if you want another. UT 2k4 is good but I'd have to place than in 4th.

far cry to show off that 7800 and make all your friends jealous. Also a pretty fun game.
FPS - Chronicles of Riddick, HL-2, Vampire the Masquerade,
Strategy - Warhammer Dawn of War, Rome Total War, like other people said Republic Commando and Doom 3

Definitely give Chronicles a try very comparable to Doom 3 in the graphics department and definitely more enojoyable. It clocks in at about 10 + hrs of gametime. Also try out falcon 4 if you have any interest in flight sims as i think it is the first game to utilize dual core, not sure how well it uses the cpus. And Silent Hunter III for another great sim.

Want to see Doom3 . . . just D/L the demo . . . the entire game is "more of the same" [crap].

Chronicles of Riddick: EfBB is a GREAT game with excellent gfx and superb gameplay, voice acting, cutscenes and Plot.

Of course, Far Cry and HL2 are "musts"

DeuSex:IW is really excellent [so UNlike the original but excellent in its "own way"] and so is Thief-DS . . . if you havent played Max Payne II - FoMP, you are missing something good [bullet time]

and PAINKILLER is a 'Killer' game [also with its expansion BoOH] - a "twitch shooter" in the style of Serious Sam but with undocumented weapons combos, unbelievable hidden spots with Unlockable levels and alternate endings and great use of the Havock 2 physics engine.

KotOR is also highly recommended for a GREAT rpg.

If you are looking at NWN, then you might want to try Morrowind G.O.T.Y Edition:thumbsup: This is a very deep and open end game.
