I have been a very satisfied WinXP gamer. Every title I have thrown at it (albiet most of them recent) has ran with flying colors and without the need to play with the compatibility tab.

I would like to get a list going of games that people cannot get to work:
Catagory I - Games that will run with some tweaking (compatibility tab)
Catagory II - Games that won't run at all

We needen't go back to DOS erra games, I'm mainly interested in the transition from 98SE to XP. Many gamers I know are hesitant to switch over their gaming box for fear that they will experience gaming problems. If you are having a problem, please list your cpu/ram/video/sound as well as the OS it would work in if known (ie won't run in XP, but will run in 98se/ME/2000).

Thanks for the input!

CS/HL/TFC etc works fine for my friends & I with WinXP :),the only game I can`t seem to get running is X-Com Apocalypse,I can get the intro and that`s it in XP.

I've run half-life and starcraft without any noticable mouse problems. I wonder if it's something specific to your mouse...

What kind of mouse do you have, and have you tried updating the drivers for it?

Category II: Red Alert (1), Die By The Sword (both are win95 only i believe). I really wish you'd include DOS games :) Because I've quite a few older games that I'd like to play from time to time (e.g. Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, Raptor..ect) Even with compatibility mode in XP if I run those or any other DOS game with sound enabled the prefomance of the game is terrible. Oh well

I think you have a screwy mouse...

I haven't come across a game that wouldn't install in XP, because I haven't tried to install anything old...

XP is a great gaming OS for me. Dungeon Siege, Morrowind, Warcraft III, Jedi Knight, RtCW, Civ III, MoHAA; all played rock solid.

That said, I think stability has alot to do with drivers........

I recently built a computer for a friend using a K7S5A, Nvidia Gforce 2MX400 64MB w/24.92 dets, and XP Home. The husband liked to play Deerhunter 5. I couldn't get that game to run on that box for anything. Installed it on my main rig and it flew like a champ. I'm guessing it's a combination of GFX, game and/or system drivers that's preventing the game from running properly...even after the XP patch.

it works if you download silkworm (search google) and get the official patch, then enable a couple options.

Gaming on WinXP is great. I dont have a problems with any games. CS/HL and SC/BW work fine. No problems with mouse or sound. Might be your drivers.

Final Fantasy 7 is a no go for me.

Grrr...I don't want to buy the ps version! I spent $50 getting this game when it first came out!

Sigh...

FF7 wasn't that good. Well, it was good the first time through I guess.

For me, EverQuest crashes to desktop all the time.

Neverwinter nights freezes up all the time.

Standby mode only works half the time.

Pretty much everything I want to do doesn't exactly work.

I've spent days fiddling with drivers and settings. I eventually gave up. :)

Why not just spend hours fiddling with a reinstall rather than days fiddling....? :D
