Games that have creeped you out?

Which games have you played that have scared the ever living crap out of you?

My first entry into this category is Fatal Frame, a PS2 game that involves a lot of ghosts, dark surroundings, and creepy sound effects. Even during calm moments it makes my hair stand on end, and during it's "BOO!" moments I nearly have a heart attack.

Secondly, Clive Barker's Undying for the PC was really scary. Great use of music, sound effects, and lighting really made you jump.

So how about the rest of you?

Max Payne freaked out my girlfriend and I. Running through some weird black hallway forever with your dead child screaming is pretty scary.

Then the whole punks on LSD with the weird demonic music thing...

I just about quit playing the game when that came up. Decided to fight it off though since the gameplay was so good.

RTCW. played in the dead of the night, going through the catacombs with nothing other than a machine gun and noises of things wanting to kill me everywhere. Then I got to that goddamn stealth mission and uninstalled. I HATE that mission.

System Shock 2 really freaked me out. I haven't played more than 10 minutes of that game.

I never finished it either, but only because I lost interest before the end. Ahhh...looks like time to reinstall SS2 :)

The first game that creeped the hell out of me was an "Aliens" conversion for Doom. Damn that was intense.

Next was AvP. I couldn't play as the marine. Too intense :)

1) Half-Life in the dead of night, the first time I played it.
2) Max Payne. See above post regarding trippy LSD missions.
3) Amercian McGee's Alice. Holy crap.

forgot about Half-life. Specifically that time you're on that rock ledge and somewhere along there one of those little alien things jump out at you. That was the first time I threw my mouse across my desk and literally jumped off my chair.

You call me a pussy for freaking out over Max Payne, yet the reply about Mario Brothers has no response. ;)

The first headcrab shriek got me. I had the speakers cranked. And then later on in Xen when the giant Mother Headcrab comes stomping out ... it wasn't as much fright as "Oh sweet unholy crap. That thing's going to FU(K me up." I play all my games on the most difficult setting - so yes, it did royally ream me several times.

Thief had some scary levels - specially the ones with zombies. But System Shock 2 is definitely the most scary.
