Games that don't require internet connect to play...

We are going on a LONG cruise soon and I was thinking of taking a lappy with me to play games. I have been a WOW player since Apr 2005, but have played little else since then.

The lappy is my wife's Toshiba T515-S4010, 3GB RAM, Win 7 Home Prem. 64-bit. The Windows Experience Index is 3.2. So, that means that the graphics is only tolerable with the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M displaying a resolution of 1366x768.

What game suggestions do you know of that might keep me occupied on the long days at sea.

Anything from GOG.com. They're older games, so they all work great on integrated graphics, and they're completely DRM-free (so no internet connection is necessary).

If that was me, i'd buy Rome total war and possibly Medieval 2 total war if it will run.

You can literally play these games for MONTHS, so many variables and ways to conquer.

Rome total war is not very graphically intensive at all.

Heroes 3 is the best one, and with GOG you dont need a disc and you dont need to always be connected.

Heroes 1-2 are fun too and a bit simpler to play. I finished HOMM 1-2 campaigns but for some reason never made it through 3's.

King's Bounty is great too, but GoG only has the first game, you should get the complete pack from Steam (with Armored Princess and Crossworlds) if it's the next flash deal in the sale. Buy now, play when you get back if steam offline mode isn't working.

Its best if we know what kind of game / genre interest you.
That said, strategy games usually offer some of the best replay value.
Take a look at Civ 4, Kings Bounty, Galactic Civilization 2 and older titles from Paradox such as EU3.
They should be on sale at the moment (Steam Summer Sale)

Ummm, no, theres a buttload of games requiring internet these days. Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 immediately pop into mind as popular examples.

SC2 can be played without an internet connection by logging in as a guest. Available play modes are the single player campaign with achievements disabled and playing VS. the AI.

I think you can put Steam in offline node and play those no problem.

Are you not familiar with this error? It happens randomly and once you get it, you can't launch Steam unless you connect online again.

Thanks for all of your responses! I owned and played Heros of M&M 1 - 4 and some of the addons. But, that was years ago. I've since thrown out those discs. So, not sure I want to revisit that.

I'll review the links you all provided and see what might work.

Some games can be played right from the Binary in the steam folder. Just as an FYI if you do get the error.

No, there really aren't, outside of the few examples like SC2 (which another poster pointed out is only a problem if you want to play multiplayer, which obviously isn't the case for this OP), and D3, and then theres Ubisoft games. But other than that, there is no 'buttload' of single player non-mmo games that require an active internet connection. I have over 150 games on Steam and outside of a few MMO's, I can play all of them in Steam's offline mode, assuming of course I installed them before getting on the cruise ship.

As others have suggested as well, GOG.com has a ton of great offerings at good prices with no online components, definitely worth checking out, theres enough there to keep you playing 24/7 during the entire cruise.

They have a Heroes 5 and 6 now. Each has some expansion packs.
Check GOG before Steam, you wont need a connection for GOG stuff.
