Games Now Lagging

Hello all.

Ive been experiencing harsh lag on some but not all games that I play.

For example Quake3 Arena Demo, my cpu usage shoots up to 100%
while I play on nowhere near the maximum settings. I used to play the
game with no problems at all until I upgraded my ram from 2x256mb to 1x1GB
and 1x256MB.

The game will stop for about 1 second, resume, stop for one second resume.

Age of empires, I can no longer play after the upgrade. I get harsh lag, the same
type of issue happens with quake, stop for one second, resume.

Could someone tell me what the issue could possibly be ?
here are my specs :

CPU : AMD Athlon64 3000+ @ 1.8ghz
RAM: 1.25GB of pc2700 (333mhz) ram
HDD: 40gb 4200rpm
NET : TE100-PCBUSR 32-Bit Cardbus PC Card (this used to be seperate) until
a window update combined my 5in1 media reader and my ethernet port.

You may want to uninstall both the 5in1 and the Network card and re-install them
as most likely this would be the cause of the slowdown.

yep, good point. another thing u can try is basically disassembling and reassembling your computer. u dont know what dust can do!!!
