Games Keep Stuttering and PC running slow

I have this PC that I can't figure out whats wrong. I run SiSoft and every benchmark comes out where it should be, but when I run a 3D game it stutters a bit. When I run 3Dmark2001 I get a 6000 and I know I should be around 9000.

It had a GeForce 2 in it and it was resetting, but I found the heat problems to be coming from the video card. So I put in a GeForce 4400ti, and it doesn't reset when running games. I tried putting in a 256MB of SDRAM instead of what it had and that didn't help.

Installed new Nvidia drivers too.

Even went as far as updating the bios. The cpu is running at 130F at full load.

AMD 1466mhz cpu
133mhz bus
ASUS A7A266 motherboard
256MB DDR - Kingston
Windows XP

Any Ideas what is making it run 3D REAL SLOW? I reinstalled XP also.....

My Initial question was whehter that was oc'ed t-bird or a XP because I was told that b/c t-birds didn't support SIMD or something like that they stuttered a little in games (whereas the xps don't...Can someone clarify b/c I hate to give false informatino)

But then I saw your mobo. I heard that a lot of kt266s were not great...and there was a IMMENSE improvement with a kt266a

That would be my second (and final) guess

Make sure DMA is enabled on the Primary & Secondary IDE channels? I'd assume yes, but check anyway as this may cause the cd-rom drive to be slow.
I've seen with Neverwinter Nights (probably a isolated case), that an antivirus program can impede performance.
Does the mobo have the latest Via 4-in-1 drivers? If it uses a Via chip that is.
Have you made sure the BIOS isn't set to default settings? On my Epox 8KHA+, that tells the DDR to run at 1600, instead of 2100 speed.

This PC was never OCed. It is a 1400 T-bird CPU. I have a 900mhz Duron, maybe I will try it. I have built over 100 PC's since the 486 days and this one has me stumped....

I went to the ASUS website but I couldn't find the Via 4 in 1 drivers, but since Ive been using XP I haven't needed to install them, so I forgot where they are located. Anyone have a link?

I did however install the AGP MINIPORT driver.

With the KT266, I would definitely recommend to use the drivers that are included with XP. I installed the 4-in-1 drivers over the XP drivers and ran into all kinds of problems.

Running Norton Anti Virus 2002. And XP had been installed. The PC used to have ME on it, but I formated it and installed XP and he says the problems started around that time and it ran slower
😕 I might try to put ME on another drive and see what happeneds then....

Something is deffinately running slower than normal on this PC, but by a lot but enough so its noticable in games, but its more of a stutter. The only other MB I have is another A7A266, but im probobly going to give it a shot anyway....

When I run dxdiag it says that AGP texture Acceleration is not available so it can't be enabled... Can this cause it?
