On my kids computer, Celeron 300 @450, 192mb ram, Diamond V770 TNT2 ultra 32mb, SB PCI sound card and WinME....Everytime they play any games, the game will dump back to the desktop in the middle of the game. We can get back into the game cause it's down in the taskbar. What is causing this?

You sure it's not something goofy like one of the game controls is alt-tab or something like that? How about the "windows" key? Are they accidentally hitting it?

I play Tribes alot, and every once in a while I'll hit a particular key combo that will minimize tribes to the taskbar.

I don't think there is anything running in the background.
And to answer Moonchild's assumptions, I would think that too...but it happens when we play any kind of game. My son likes to play sports games and they all kick out, then I went up and loaded a flight sim and it still did the same thing...kicked back to the desktop...

LumMoose...did you not read any of the thread or even the thread title..Games is plural, meaning this happens with more than one game. I have this problem with numerous games..

The very first thing I would do is clock that Celeron back down to 300 and see if it still happens.

yeah, MCS is right, try bringing it back down to 300. When you overclock your computer, all the components are being overclocked as well, so that can be the reason. Worth a try.

I know the problem.....you stated it. "....and WinME."

WinME is not the most stable thing out there right now. Some of my branches bought Dell & Gateway systems with WinME pre-loaded....they're having lots of problems....and they haven't even put them on the network yet and installed business apps.

Sound like this is a custom system.....could you try putting Win98 on and play games? Also, many games are not ofically "WinME" compatible.

OK...taking it back to it default speed has no effect as I stated earlier..games still dump to the desktop...I think I will remove WinME and reinstall 98SE...thanks for the help...
Oooh by the way, your wrong about the overclocking part on these Celerons...You do not up the FSB on these ..you just adjust the multiplier on them...So my whole system is not overclocked, just the CPU is...

Not true!

I used to run a C300 @ 450 and the multiplier is LOCKED at 4.5.

4.5 x 66Mhz FSB = 300Mhz
4.5 x 100Mhz FSB = 450Mhz

So effectively the FSB has been raised from 66 to 100.

Did you not overclock this system yourself?
