I purchased Warcraft III when it first came out, and it worked beautifully on my system (xp2100+, geforce 4, audigy) but a few months ago, it started giving me this strange error when I tried to play it, and I never got around to trying to fix it.
Yesterday I went and bought Vice City, installed it, and now *it* won't run either! In both cases, the screen blanks to change resolutions, but then it beeps an error message at me.

I just installed the newest nVidia drivers (44.03), updated my soundblaster drivers (whatever beta drivers SB points you to), and then installed the newest directX, but the games still give the same message. Command & Conquer: Generals works beautifully.

The error GTA gives me reads:
"
Unhandled Exception:
c0000005
At address 1d1c4e86
"

While the Warcraft error reads:
"
FATAL ERROR!
Program: (blahblahblah)
Exception: 0xc0000005 (Access_Violation) at 001B:1D1C4E86

The instrcution at '0x1D1C4E86' referenced memory at '0x00000000'
The memory could not be 'read'.
"

Before updating the drivers, I uninstalled both games and scanned and defragged my harddrive.

Please, someone help me. I need my fix :(
Thanks!

What OS are you running? Have you tested your RAM with Memtest86 or something similar to make sure it's working ok?

A problem with Memtest86:
It asks me to create a boot disk, and I don't have a floppy drive. I downloaded the ISO file and made a cd from that image, and tried booting with the cd in both my d: and e: drives (with CDROM as primary boot device), but it goesn't seem to read.

Suggestion on what to do next?
