I have made some modifications at various times to improve performance, but somewhere in my tweaking something went wrong. I've used programs like cacheman and xteq setup. Lately most of my games, though running quite smoothly will, without warning, crash to the desktop. I think it's a memory thing, but I don't know what to do. It isn't any one game, and there is no error message. I have 256 megs of ram and 950 mzh Athlon. I have limited my cache settings to 32 megs max and min (chunksize 4096), and I use a perminent swap file of 500megs. I've tried restoring some of the xteq defaults as well as trying other recommended settings, but so far I can't figure out what changed or if it was xteq that started it all. I'm using windows 98 se.
