I'm talking to people who really enjoyed 2033, not those who thought it was mediocre.

Just curious what your impression was.

I went into LL concerned that it was going to be more focused on non-stop shooting to try and capture the more casual audience but my fears were almost completely unfounded.

I thought Metro:LL was able to re-capture the wonderful atmosphere of the original game world and improve on some of the game mechanics as well. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the original.

More of the same, although I found
the bosses to be boring. Weapon mods are awesome but the regular ammo seems to be more powerful than in the first one.

It is pretty easy even on highest difficulty. I don't remember this being the case with the first Metro. On that one you really have to weigh your purchases carefully. They managed to destroy the first one also by adding the VoltDriver, that was too op, but at least you had the choice of ignoring it.

Just as good, if not better. I love the style and the atmosphere of the Metro games. So immersive.

:thumbs down:

I early bought because of the first one..

the second one kinda seemed to me a big let down...

It lacked a lot of the open world elements the first one had.
And it forced you to stay on a linear path, or suffer things like running out of gas filters for gas mask.

The first one allowed you to be creative.. the second one forced you to be with the masses.

Right now I'm about 3-4 hours into the game, and I can't quite pin down my feelings yet.

There are some great moments, as well as some minor disappointments.

I need to play some more, but in the end: if a game has great moments, that makes up for some lows, doesn't it? I'd rather have an uneven game with spectacular sections than a boring even keel game that never strives for anything but the lowest common denominator.

Metro Last Light is one of the best FPS shooters you'll ever play. The game's atmosphere is so thick, you can cut it with a knife!

Wow. The first was really hard compared to any other shooter I've played in a long time; especially that long bridge part... died there so many times.

But, that is one of the reasons I loved the first one; I'm tired of games I can complete while watching a movie on another screen.

Yeah.

At the end of the first "stealth" section I had dutifully snuck to the end and got discovered by one of the last guards. I figured I would get blown away, but I managed to dive into one of the side rooms. I got my AK ready for a final firefight.

It never came. The enemy guards dutifully entered the room one at a time, allowing me to hit casual headshots one after the other. They continued this single file parade until they were all dead. No one so much as lobbed a grenade in to flush me out. Compared with the stealth sections in 2033 (for all of their flaws) it was a joke.

That bridge was one of the best levels in the game, but going through it without killing anyone is the actual challenge. By that point you should have the Vintorez(don't remember the name in the game), so killing everything isn't that much of a problem, even on Ranger mode

I liked both. but I liked the atmosphere on the first one a little better. But the graphics looked better and played better with LL. I thought both were great games.

I hated how the voice didn't sound like the same guy from original and not nearly as good imo.
I hated how long the stupid intro took just to get me to the main screen in LL plus it didn't even look as cool.
I liked most everything else, bit more of the same but that is good thing. I liked 2033 a tad better in some ways but LL better in others so both are awesome and had a good time. However I lost interest in LL and never beat it.

However ranger mode is a must and should be turned on by default, I knew going in that it would be the best experience but shame the A.I. has the same exploitable stupidity that most shooters have. Too many times I ran behind a corner and watched most of the enemies come around as I piled them up.

Very good, it's pretty much what any fan of the original would expect from a sequel.

Many people professed dislike at the combat in these games, but I had a LOT of fun sneaking through the areas throwing knives into peoples necks and basically doing most of it stealth.

First game that triggered my upgrade from a 580 to 580 SLI because the graphics brought my 580 to it's knees in 3D (120hz) but ran sweet as hell with 2x580 in SLI. The game looks truly beautiful cranked with real time shadows and excellent lighting effects, and it's bonkers in stereoscopic 3D, looks amazing.

Well there's a rare thing to hear. I have yet to play anything in 3D that I would say wow. Trine 2 was the only one that looked decent in 3D that I've played but stupid 3Dtvplay software won't work in Windows 8 so looks like no more for me anyway. I don't even think the new consoles have any 3D enabled games.

I thought the story was much better than the first one. The gameplay felt largely the same.

Maybe a little on the short side for 50-60 dollars, but I thought it was engaging and fun.

So....

The advanced AI is included in the "Ranger mode"?

Or not?

That may have seemed like a rhetorical post, but it wasn't.

For anyone that bought the "Ranger" mode - does it come with advanced AI? Whenever I get to a stealth section all of the enemy soldiers stand frozen in place for a while, and then slowly move off in a straight line. They don't seem to notice me knocking out their comrades a few feet away from them.

If the ranger mode fixes these types of things I might buy it and start over.
