Gamers what resolution do you play at?

I"m currentlly using 800x600 16bit medium detail on BF1942. This is all my video card can handle. Since I'm new to gaming I've never experienced playing in higher resolution or high detail. Is playing full detail at 1024x768 or even 1600x1200 that much better?

Is it worth it to upgrade my video card to a radeon 9500 so I can play at these resolutions in high detail.. I guess I just don't know what I'm missing out on if anything and if I will noticed a big difference in game play by upgrading.

Thanks!!

I stick with my oldies at 320x200 16 colour. But I use 256x FSAA to smooth the edges. Since no card supports this, I find a mixture of Saran Wrap and Vaseline does the trick.

I play all my games at 1024x768x32 and things just look right to me. I will stick to that until I get a 21" monitor.

Anti-Aliasing

Both ATI and Nvidia can do it, but there is less of a performance hit on ATI cards.

1024x768x32 here also. I will need to upgrade my GTS-V soon to keep this level of detail on the new games.

They do, but they're not essential.. just eye candy.

AA (Anti-Aliasing) is an algorithm that, in one of several ways, gets rid of those jaggy edges on diagonal lines by blurring the image somewhat. Gets rid of jaggies, sometimes blurs textures. Also gives big time performance hit the higher you crank it.

AF (Anisotropic Filtering) makes textures look less blurry when viewed at extreme angles, such as the floor of a very very long hallway. This effect is harder to see than AA, imo, but gives a lesser performance hit when you crank it.

turning up the resolution does a pretty good job of reducing jaggies on its own, so i usually play at 16x12 with no AA and max AF. but then again, i have a radeon 8500 which can handle that with most games.

ROFL!
That's the Geaorge Lucas a la Mos Eisley <sp?> 'A New Hope' trick, right?

I usually run at 1024 x 768 max det 32bit. opens it up a bit more for me. I wouldn't go higher on my little monitor ;)

1280x960x32 @ 100 refresh rate. If it's a racing game I use 4x FSAA and on most games I run Quality 4x AF (except for games like Diablo II which messes their graphics up).

Depends on the game. In Counter-Strike I play at 640*480 because it makes the models bigger while in other games I play higher.

800x600 @ 32 @ 85Hz It's all y monitor can handle, i'd go higher if it could 60hz or below give me a headache

Well...if my friends are over then I crank it all the way up to 1600x1200 on UT3 just to show off that my system plays flawlessly w/all settings maxed. But when it's just me I nudge it down to 1280x1024 w/normal settings for the extra frames. To me anything more is eye candy, the same thing as putting neon lights and a window in a case.
