I thought I might outgrow gaming but seems I am into it now more than ever and I will be...47...later this year!

How many of you guys out there are 45 or over and see no end to your gaming interests?

In the past few weeks I dropped from 50 hours in 2 weeks, to only about 7 hours playing time.

Have not been playing a lot lately, got bored with left 4 dead 2, and have been taking care of real life stuff. After the original l4d maps are released in l4d2 I will jump back in.

Really hyped up about Duke Nukem. I remember back in 1998 and 1999 Duke was all over the news sites and then just disappeared.

I hope Diablo 3 is just as good as the original.
 
Let's just say I'm a few years older and one quarter of all gamers are over 50. I expect as time goes by our numbers will keep increasing. Since older folks generally have more time and money to spend on such things hopefully it will also mean more support for quality games.
 
I'm 62.

My son got me into PC computer gaming back around @ 1992-93. Our first two games, I believe, were 'Aces Over Europe' (WWII flight sim) and a WWII submarine sim (can't remember name).

I now belong to one of the largest PC gaming clans... 'Rebels at War'. We have approx over 260 members, and play 'FPS' games such as 'Battlefield: Bad Company 2' and 'COD Black Ops'.

My father gamed into his late 40s, now his career drains so much of his time and energy that he just watches TV while in bed after a long day.
 
The most challenging aspect is actually finding something worth playing.

I find my major source of gaming is GOG or Indie developers these days.

The only big title that has any interest to me is Skyrim, and after Oblivion (lack of support) I don't know that I'm really even fired up about that.

+1 on that.

As compared to games from 10, 12 even 15 years ago, it seems that developers today are more concerned about producing crap, as compared to producing a quality product.

I can count one 1 hand, maybe 2 hands how many games I would consider great - Doom, Quake multiplayer (quakeworld), Diablo 1, Half-Life, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, C&C Gold edition, Diablo II, Team Fortress Classic, left 4 dead 1 & 2,,,,,.

It seems to me that the majority of great games were made before 2004, with most of the truly "great" ones being made before the year 2000.

Besides Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, I have not had a game really grab me since half-life 2.
 
I think the lack of good games is just a temporary problem.

The developers went nuts trying to make money as fast as they could with the rising popularity of HD consoles. The original Doom cost about 200k to produce, while today some games cost 100 million. Now the market has finally shifted and only a handful of 3D games a year make the big bucks and even the low definition Wii has cut in on console sales. That means the competition should heat up between the surviving developers to put out the best quality products instead of just pumping them out in volume as fast as they can.

How did video games come to be thought of as "kid stuff" to begin with? Games have certainly matured, and become more complex, to a tremendous degree, since the days of Atari, etc., so maybe that complexity has more of an appeal to a wider age range?
 
I'm 30, but I don't see myself quitting gaming...ever. I already told my girlfriend that gaming is a part of my life 🙂

It's the cost and time involved. Kids have more free time and as the cost has come down they now buy a lot more games then adults. Today the vast majority of games sold are all "family friendly" and there is even a serious interest in the government producing educational games.

As Jay Leno put it:

When we were kids... We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms. WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
 
doesn't your wife get bothered that you spend lots of time playing games? even my gf gets angry when she thinks i'm ignoring just to play games lol.
 
I'm 33.

I've played games since I got my Commodore 64 in the mid 80s.

I don't think my age had any influence on the amount of time I've invested into gaming since then.

I'm more picky about games these days, though, and it really is all about which games are available. Can be a few dry months with nothing I feel like playing, and then something comes out which I'll play 6+ hours a day, until I'm done with it.

I can still get excited like a little kid on Christmas, when I get my hands on a new title I've been looking forward to 😛
 
It makes sense for people to be in their 50's and playing games. Gaming really starting taking off 30yrs ago so those people were young and now they're older but still love playing games.

Man, Aces Over Europe/Pacific were such great games. The sub sim game was probably the Silent Service series. Also great games back then.
 
43 here, still playing when I can. Mostly L4D2 and just got into Need for Speed World about a month ago. Started back when Wolfenstein 3D came out.

Edit: I guess I should count my Atari 2600 days back in the mid-70's. Dang, I can remember finding the 'secret' message within the 'Adventure' game on my own. I was like 'this is way cool!'

I started back in the Commodore 64 days for those that remember that far back(I know you old timers do 😉 ) then moved to the Atari ST,Amgia etc and eventually to IBM PC around Dos 6/Win3.1 days.


I don't mind giving my age which is 47,its kind of sad that quality of PC games nowadays is way below the standard back then (decades ago),amazing you could get a very good quality game on a floppy and play it for ages .

I think the oldest women I got into gaming was 80+ lol quite a few years ago, she had never used a computer or played a game before and asked me "am I blowing things up for real?....

Games don't have an age limit and to be honest why should they?..I rather be gaming then taking drugs or blowing all my money on booze.
 
I'm 31 and game often. Have a wife and kids now so not as much as ten years ago, but I'm still interested in games and I suspect I always will be.
 
41 and I still have fun, the real challenge is finding a game that stimulates me now but yes I still game and I really don't see an end to it

I am 39, my father is 75 and plays battlefield 1942 just about everyday. He and I attended a Lan party at the INTEL facility a couple of years ago......guess who won the oldest gamer award for the day 🙂.......Go Dad!
