Been using a Linksys BEFSR41 for over a year now. To join a game, I don't have to open any ports etc (you shouldn't have to). To host yes I have to open the game port (whichever port that game uses). I've hosted clan practices for GR, CS, and RTCW, Q3 etc.
Forwarding a port is simple to do. The more you do it the faster you?ll become untroubled. The people I?ve helped thus far have had success setting up their router for this simple task. However, some have had to replace their router (some routers were not working properly etc?), and some (believe it or not) were giving there firends there router assigned IP address (doh!).
Fairly easy if you ask me.
