Senseless buyers, the types who think Best Buy is a good place to buy PC parts.

I was actually thinking the same when I read that. The sort of consumer who would pay $150 for a monster HDMI cable at Best Buy; uninformed, not tech-savvy, brand-oriented. Not understanding there are options just as good or better for less money.

Or people who have been burned by AMD's horrible driver support in the past, and haven't quite built back up the trust in their software/ driver aptitude. I do realize that they have made tremendous leaps in the past year in this regard, but this is a new turn around for them, after a very undependable past. I am very happy though with what appears to be a solid support or at least drive in a new direction with their Mantle API, but I'm not going to jump the bandwagon quite yet.

Overall yes, no big issues here. Actually... no issues at all in pretty much all modern titles.
And Mantle is freaking great!!

But with 2 games so far (one of which I don't even own) vs constant system wide DX improvements, it's starting to get a bit chilly here on the team red.

Case in point, 2 latest/upcoming games, Wolfenstein and Watch Dogs - you are so much better with NV counterparts its not even funny

Now, now, lets at least be honest here. Nvidia struggled at UHD, 4K resolutions, but still ran MUCH better at WQHD and HD resolutions, which is 99% of the actual market...

Yeah, so much better that they had to lower settings when it was stuttering because the game uses more than 3GB ram occasionally even with everything high and not ultra

Makes me wonder if you even read the piece and aren't just basing your conclusion on that graph.

And there is a 770 running Ultra textures bang on where it ought to be in the graph of performance. Sure it can't do 1440p and above, but at 1080p its completely fine. 3GB is not needed for Watchdogs for the usual HD. Its one of the few games that has an issue at 1440p however, that definitely looks like a VRAM problem due to the severity of the performance plummet and its one of the first games to do it (previously I only saw issues at 2160p) but that is all fine.

During our test runs we found that one test run will result on 50 FPS, the second 40 FPS ... This means that the results shown today in this article are preliminary and indicative, not a precise measurement by any standard. And that's something we do not like. It in fact made me hesitate whether or not to post this article whatsoever.

I think we can expect a few game patches and driver updates over next few weeks/months. I do not like the idea of having to upgrade my 770 2gb over some sloppy game coding.

Both companies are releasing a new driver with WD improvements. I wouldn't pay too much attention to those numbers.

Based on nvidia's optimal playable settings, a 2gb 770 (which I have) cannot use ultra textures, 4gb version can though.

So is 2gb still considered PLENTY? I know some folks always talk about 2gb being MORE THAN PLENTY!! PLENTY!! PLENTY @ SURROUND 8XAA ULTRA NO PROBLEM with 2GB!

Also, I suspect that game testers aren't actually having problems with cards under 4gb. I just think they need to learn how Vram is actually used in games. Clearly they are ignorant and simply don't understand how games use Vram, therefore 2gb is enough forever.

(OK fine. I'm just bitter because I have 2gb cards)

Lol. Per the Nvidia tweak guide, the game uses 5.8 GB of VRAM at 4k resolution with 4X TXAA.

Guru3D reports that the game stutters even at 2560x1440 with 2xMSAA on 295X2 and even worse on 780Ti 3GB SLI

Yup, looks like my next GPU upgrade will be 6GB VRAM minimum if this trend continues with future games, unless of course there will be some drivers/patch that resolve some possible VRAM streaming issues with Watch Dogs.

I think its been a general consensus for a while now that 2gb is good enough, but its going to die quick with these new games. What bothers me though is that this game doesn't strike me as special or worthy of such high Vram requirements. I mean, it needs what it needs, but i'm actually not bothered by this personally TBH. I really don't like these GTA games, and that's what they all are, GTA rip offs.

Cpu might be a bottleneck. This is an open world sandbox game

lol this game is just eating through cpus and vram and just 1080 and looks like last gen. Crysis 3 even on medium is a much better looking game that can be run at 60 fps with just an old gtx570.

Not a fair comparison - shooter on rails with few npcs vs open world packed with hundreds of NPCs.

Crysis 3 has some open areas plus I am talking about just medium settings for it. I am also talking about textures too. Watch dogs looks like crap even with ultra textures. Crysis 3 medium textures are better looking.
