I'm continuing my search for a desktop replacement laptop. So far I have decided that my best bet is a mobile A64 machine. My problem has been finding a A64 laptop with a decent screen a video card for something less than than the $4100 that voodoo pc wants.
I found that compaq's have the higher resolution screens, but they use old video cards. I looked into ABS laptops but found that the wrist rest areas get incredibly hot and had flimsy keyboards. I'm not gonna mess with the emachines (the person i'm buying for wasn't too excited about the idea of a compaq, so i really doubt she'll want a emachine). My last hope has really boiled down to the GamePC GPN-A64:
AMD Mobile Athlon64 Processor 3400+
1GB DDR-400 SO-DIMM Memory
17.0" WXGA+ LCD Display Screen, 1680 x 1050 Native Resolution
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 Graphics with 128MB of DDR Memory
Optional Coaxial TV Tuner With Remote Control
Integrated Gigabit Ethernet and 56k Modem Connectivity
Integrated 802.11G Wireless LAN With 108Mbps Turbo Mode
4-in-1 Memory Card Reader, Type II PCIMCIA Connector
102-Key Full Sized Keyboard with Two Button Touchpad
Smart 8-Cell Lithium Ion Battery, 2-2.5 Hours Standard Battery Life
15.5" (W) x 10.8" (D)" x 1.7" (H) - 8.5 Pounds Average Weight
Price: $3343
This seems like a lot better deal than the Voodoo notebook which was similiarly configed but with a 15" screen.
Has anyone had any experience with this brand? I've read alot of their reviews in the past, but have heard little of their actual products. Review searches turn up little also, especially for model specific reviews. I would really appreciate some input on this...I find it much harder than I expected to find the "right" laptop for someone other than myself.
PS. I have read good things about Acer's Ferrari notebook, but it can't be customized (nor can the emachines) and this is a must for me.
