Gamepads, are they worth it?

So if I get a gamepad for my PC, will I be able to make fine adjustments when I control vehicles for games like BF2 (the flying) and racing games like NFS: MW? If so which gamepad is the best? I want something cheap and don't need wireless, but want the rumble feature.

I've always heard that the Thrustmaster gamepads are excellent and always get good reviews, but I've never gotten around to getting one.

Logitech makes some good gamepads, but I'd say they are focusing more on wireless versus their wired cards. I've got a Logitech Cordless Rumble 2 and I love it. I was skeptical at first about the responsiveness of a wireless gamepad, but this thing is great.

microsoft's x360 controller can be used on the PC.. it's arguably one of the best, if not the best controller available. If I can ever afford it, I would love to pick one up. But at the moment I do not have the money to spend on computer parts.

They arent much good for modern flight sims, BUT I darn sure wouldnt play an emulator with a joystick.

I have the same pad, i love it, but it is a bit flimsy.

I bought one in HK... came to about $3 USD... been using it for GTA and NFS:MW only and its definitely worth it for those type of games. I won't be enjoying them at all if it was on the keyboard.

I got a 360 controller...I've only tried it with NFS:MW. The response is a little mushy incomparison to the controller/game on the Xbox. I guess if you haven't played NFSMW on both side by side you may not know the diff.

I would go for the 360 contoller, but it's too expensive

I got a little "cheapy" Logitech gampad ($19) for NFSMW. Works great.

PS2 controller with a PS2/USB converter that can be bought at radioshack or ebay is great. The shape might not be the best, but I think the buttons on that controller are still the most sensible, and lots of them too.

I ended up buying the Logitech Rumblepad 2 off ebay for $20. It's pretty good, though not quite as nice as an actual PS2 controller. I'm pretty satisfied with it now.
