Gamepad or keypad?

I need a simple controller circuit. Whether I use a keypad or a gamepad, I'm going to slaughter the thing and make a custom controller. BUT, I need to know which one will work more reliably with a long cable (20ft, maybe more). The PS/2 keypad or gamepad?
