[GameGPU] Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

ID's Tech 5 engine, is it OpenGL? I can't recall if they are still on that API.

GameGPU says OpenGL:

Приоритетным и основным графическим API для Wolfenstein The Old Blood является OpenGL.

Translation:

The priority and the main graphics API for Wolfenstein The Old Blood is OpenGL.

During Doom 3 era, I recall that everyone talked about nVidia dominance in OpenGL. Did the table turned?

Also, it is me or Dual GPU Video Cards and SLI do absolutely nothing in that graph? They're near identical to their single counterparts.

I think Nvidia tends to put in the most support for whatever is the most popular. Right now, that is still DX.

And the dual-GPU issues will probably get sorted with an updated driver from both AMD and Nvidia...

It's obviously D3D11 ...

I know that John Carmack had worked on id Tech 5 for a while and I know he was an OpenGL crusader for a long time too but it's pretty obvious that the rest of the technical team and likely John Carmack as well saw that there was much better IHV support when it came to windows so it was a no brainer for them to add support for DirectX in their engine since there was better performance and conformance testing to be had when going with DirectX ...

FYI, AMD and Intel's OpenGL drivers are below average in comparison to Nvidia ...

I actually expected to see nvidia doing better in opengl, that is a historical weakness of amd drivers. Hopefully they bring up nvidia performance, cuz the 980 should be higher up...also hope they fix mgpu configs.

I don't think so... People are having trouble getting MSI Afterbruner's OSD to show info, and it is probably due to the program not being compatible with OpenGL.

I'm surprised finding out what API the game uses is this hard...

Edit - And I don't think Vulkan will get much screen-time on Windows, probably stick to SteamOS.

I know that, everyone does. The point is why even bother to use Vulkan for PCs if DX12 offers essentially the same functions and low-level access.

Seems would be pretty niche, Linux, MACs etc.

Both are pushing the hot feature called "bindless" but Vulkan is meant to fix the mistakes that OpenGL had done in the past such as getting rid of the legacy bloat and stupid design decisions that were approved by the ARB ...

To get away from the closed proprietary nature of DX and Microsofts amazing ability to shoehorn it into a new OS every time a revision is needed. There's also the android market... Which isn't so simple, but more straight forward than DX to Android...

I'm guessing that this game doesn't use GameWorks?

<sarcasm>This shouldn't be true, AMD drivers sux</sarcasm>

If 780Ti SLI can't hit 60FPS average/minimum in a basic shooter you fail as a game dev and should go work at KFC . . . . . .

Did they use MSAA 8x or something?

I already finished the game on my Titan X - was a locked 60 at MSAA 2x, everything else maxed at 3440x1440. Didn't seem like it was demanding at all

If both are the same, why use DX?

You have two APIs that do more or less the same but one is limited to Windows and the other is not.

PS: Yeah, I tend more to Vulkan because I play most of the time under OSX 😎

So when are we going to start calling for blood because the developer didnt optimize for nvidia?

Also 95% of the time NV is indeed faster with OGL. This is why AMD steam boxes make no sense at all atm

While AMD drivers did have issues in RAGE, a lot of OpenGL games run as fast or even better on AMD cards when comparing competing generations.

AMD has good OpenGL drivers for a very long time, in fact since HD5870 and 5770 days:

"OpenGL performance seems to be a strong point for ATi lately, especially in Doom 3 engine games like these two, and it really shows here.

In Quake 4 we see blazing performance with 2xSS, which turns in a faster score than 4xMSAA. We also see 4xSS is faster than 8xMSAA. Delivering over 60 FPS at 1920×1200 while rendering each frame four times is amazing, considering the card only has a 128 bit memory bus with slightly more bandwidth than a 4850."

In fact, in OpenGL games like Doom 3, Quake 4 and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, HD5870 beat GTX470/480 easily.

But since NV was so much superior for a decade, AMD's OpenGL drivers suck meme has stuck around. The reality is far different as AMD cards are very fast in OpenGL.

^ All of these are OpenGL games.

The only thing that's hard to explain is how TPU is getting such horrible performance in Wolfenstein on AMD cars but GameGPU doesn't show this at all.

Titan X is winning and there is no situation of HD7950 beating GTX980 😉

As far as your 2nd statement goes, AMD has been extremely competitive in OpenGL since HD5870 series. Today NV will outperform AMD since they do have the Titan X and 980 which are faster cards than the 290X but 780Ti can't really beat 290X in OpenGL. AMD's biggest problem was how some openGL games treated texture caching (Rage).

From what I've read, the Old Blood is pretty boring / uneventful game.
