in the cpu scaling chart, what does bulldozer lack?

What do you mean? CPU is basically irrelevant in this game. Not surprising that BD would trail a bit. Only thing that looks strange is what another thread discussed, in that one chip has 92 min and 100 average. Must be rounding up I guess.

No, but what is a bit surprising is that the line between 92 fps and perfect 100 fps minimum framerate is drawn exactly between the 8-thread Bulldozer and the 4-thread Piledriver. Why not between FX-6100 and FX-8120, or between FX-4300 and FX-6300 - just pure coincidence? I wonder how it would look with some Phenom II X4's and X6's in there.

Trine 3 - Artifacts of Power is able to support up to six processing threads, but fully uses only 4 cores.

Is that par for the course these days?

Is this using DX12 or something?

Correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like the FX lineup performs similar to Intels offerings, and that the r9 290x performance very close with the gtx 980...?

Not a GW title :p

edit: it seams the game is 100fps locked, if it would be unlocked the Intel CPUs would probable have higher fps than the FX cpus using a Titan-X GPU at 1080p.

Seems kind of strange to lock it at 100 FPS since the game seems like it would easily reach 120 for those with 120hz monitors.

Posts like this show how much GameWorks is hurting us. This is what you see when a title is vendor-neutral, my friend.

Though, the CPU part is a framerate cap.

Here are mine for anyone interested.

Benchmark consists of the whole Pontius intro mission.Digitally recorded, spicy wallpapers :p.

Trine 3 1920X1080 v.high GTX 970 @1.5Ghz CORE i7-860 @4GHz - 74fps

Trine 3 1920X1080 v.high 7950 @1Ghz CORE i5-2500K @4.8GHz - 47fps

970 and 7950 with the same v.high settings and v.high AA as well (FXAA+3XSSAA)

Trine 3 1920X1080 v.high GTX 570 @850Mhz Q9550 @4GHz - 63fps

Trine 3 1920X1080 v.high 5850 @950Mhz Q9550 @4GHz - 47fps

570 and 5850 with the same v.high settings but only FXAA.

And just for the story on the 3870@850Mhz and medium settings, no AA, 1080p it scored 26fps, but the video is not ready yet.

So don't jump up if you see the 570 performing better than the 7950. They are using different settings.

Although I am sure that the 570 runs MUCH better than the 7950 in Wolfenstein The Old Blood. But that is a story for another thread. I will post my results if a Wolfenstein thread pops up.

The spread between minimums and maximums is really tight. This game runs really nicely it seems

Come on, the game runs so well because it is not a very demanding game. Honestly, does every thread have to have some whining and complaining about gameworks?

I think it depends on the game. I would say a quad-core i5 hits the sweet spot for most games today, then we have quad i7 that benefits in much fewer games such as GTA V or Crysis 3. You have to balance instructions per clock and the core count. As an example, a 4.5Ghz i5 4690K will outperform a 4.8ghz 8-core FX9590.

Is this using DX12 or something?

No, it's using DX11. The game is not really CPU limited which is why any modern CPU is fine.

Seems kind of strange to lock it at 100 FPS since the game seems like it would easily reach 120 for those with 120hz monitors.

I am surprised they even went beyond 60 Hz on this one. It's such a slow paced title that I can't imagine there being any gameplay difference between 60 fps and 120 fps here.

Although I am sure that the 570 runs MUCH better than the 7950 in Wolfenstein The Old Blood. But that is a story for another thread. I will post my results if a Wolfenstein thread pops up.

 Great work as always. Trine 3 seems to be almost entirely GPU limited with any modern processor and i7 860 OC is no slouch.

It's hard to not notice that every single non-GW title runs so well on both AMD and NV hardware and every single GW title is the complete opposite. GWs has gotten so bad that in certain games (Project CARS), 980 shows a generational leap over a 780Ti. :D

It's good to know that Trine 3 is a vendor neutral title as it's a very popular franchise in its genre.

Point is, if it is not a game-works title, how is it on topic to bring it up?

The purpose of this thread wasn't to turn it into GW discussion. Maybe some PC gamers are frustrated at the current state of PC game development that when they see a game that scales really well (i.e., is vendor agnostic), they do comment on this aspect?

Coming from knowledgeable people like you my friend, it is the greatest honor a hobbyist benchmarker can get!

Thanks! :D
