Is that par for the course these days?
I think it depends on the game. I would say a quad-core i5 hits the sweet spot for most games today, then we have quad i7 that benefits in much fewer games such as GTA V or Crysis 3. You have to balance instructions per clock and the core count. As an example, a 4.5Ghz i5 4690K will outperform a 4.8ghz 8-core FX9590.
Is this using DX12 or something?
No, it's using DX11. The game is not really CPU limited which is why any modern CPU is fine.
Seems kind of strange to lock it at 100 FPS since the game seems like it would easily reach 120 for those with 120hz monitors.
I am surprised they even went beyond 60 Hz on this one. It's such a slow paced title that I can't imagine there being any gameplay difference between 60 fps and 120 fps here.
Although I am sure that the 570 runs MUCH better than the 7950 in Wolfenstein The Old Blood. But that is a story for another thread. I will post my results if a Wolfenstein thread pops up.
 Great work as always. Trine 3 seems to be almost entirely GPU limited with any modern processor and i7 860 OC is no slouch.
Come on, the game runs so well because it is not a very demanding game. Honestly, does every thread have to have some whining and complaining about gameworks?
It's hard to not notice that every single non-GW title runs so well on both AMD and NV hardware and every single GW title is the complete opposite. GWs has gotten so bad that in certain games (Project CARS), 980 shows a generational leap over a 780Ti.
It's good to know that Trine 3 is a vendor neutral title as it's a very popular franchise in its genre.
