Funny how AMD and Nvidia both have their respective games where they perform well. AMD CPUs getting hammered (again).

this game is not dominated by GTX 680. In fact HD 7970 Ghz matches GTX 680 at 1680x1050 and 2560x1600. Only at 1920 x 1080 the GTX 680 edges ahead.

Where did I say the 680 "dominates"? I said, it performs well - even overproportionally well when considering other games and the raw performance advantage of the 7970 GHz.

Man, AMD CPUs are so fail of late.. a huge bottleneck for gaming. But the game seems not to scale with cores, only IPC.

You can save some by buying FX, but it will come back to haunt you.

4 fast Nehalem+ cores (Sck. 1156, 2011, 1155) is still the way to go.

I can't get the freakin game to run more than 5min without crashing on GTX 580 SLI. It ran flawlessly until i got to Boston. Still hear audio in background, but PC locks up or have to close game. :/

Okay, the game IS dominated by Kepler, at least for now. TXAA is pretty good, best implementation so far.

I really liked how their comparison pictures works with a slider to see the differences between TXAA and MSAA

And @boxleitnerb
It looks even better for Fermi than for Kepler, but I agree that Nvidia dominates most of the tests, except the one from the Russian site.
And it's the same with AMD, last generation does really well compared to GCN

Too bad this console port is actually a crappy one. AC3 is a perfect example of HOW NOT to do a PC port. The game has ugly graphics, terrible textures and DX11 features are more or less non-existent. The MSAA performance hit is similar to BF3, minus BF3's graphics. The overall graphics are laughable for a DX11 game in 2012, especially with this level of performance. It would be way more impressive if Nvidia was "dominating" GPU demanding games with good graphics (Metro 2033, Alan Wake, Crysis games, Witcher 2, Metro, Far Cry 3, etc.) instead of AC3 that looks like a 2007 PC game and runs like a dog.

This game should be running at 120+ fps on a GTX580. The graphics are simply awful. The level of detail, character models, lighting and shadow effects, texture quality and environment complexity are shockingly simplistic for a 2012 PC game compared to the level of performance. The developer really needs to reboot this franchise on a brand new DX11 game engine.

It's unbelievable that THQ is struggling to survive after releasing Company of Heroes and Metro 2033 and has CoH 2 and Metro LL in the pipeline and yet AC keeps selling like hotcakes, but it has become a COD-style sell-out with outdated game engine and gamers aren't complaining.

Also there are serious issues with this game engine/port:

GTX680 gets just 4 fps more than GTX660 while HD7970Ghz is only 0.8 fps faster than HD6970 in PCGamesHardware, while 8 GPUs are getting nearly identical performance despite their actual performance characteristics widely different in modern games.

This game port is obviously completely broken. This is the opposite of Hitman Absolution where DX11 is just a sticker on the box ala Black Ops 2.

My guess is the developer is technically incompetent as this game's port also runs very poorly on the Wii U.

what the hell is up with all these mediocre looking games that cant even average 30 fps at 1080 with a card like mine? none of these games can stay above 60 fps even with the fastest single gpu cards. it makes no sense seeing as there is not much visual difference between consoles yet those wimpy things dont even have a gpu equivalent to a freaking 8600gt and can get 30 fps at 720 or right below. its amazing how much they can optimize a game for the 360 compared to what we end up on even a high end pc. o_O

Unoptimized code probably. They eek out as much from the consoles as possible, then port the code over to the PC as quickly as they can get away with, and it ends up being very inefficient.

yeah I am blown away at how good something like Gears of War 3 looks and runs on the 360 yet plenty of pc games run and look worse on hardware many times faster.

My guess is most of these widely popular console games like COD: BO2, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect are optimized highly for Xbox360 and then these companies port these games to PS3 (sometimes the PS3 development proceeds alongside with Xbox 360 and that's when PS3 ports are good), but most of the time PS3 cross-platform games look and run FAR worse than Xbox 360's versions. Now if these developers could care less to optimize for PS3 with its 70 million install base, imagine how much they care for the PC version? The most popular console games that get ported to the PC are the worst - COD games, Mass effect, Assassin's Creed, GTA IV - they all run like garbage and their graphics are laughable, embarrassingly primitive. If it wasn't for the mod community, GTA IV would have been an instant fail on the PC. Dark Souls? Maybe the worst port in PC gaming history!

imo, Xbox360 is by far the most to blame for the sad state of the industry's ports.

Black Ops 2 on the PS3 looks like the developers spent about 5 min optimizing it. The irony is that the popularity of consoles is ruining ports not only for the PC but even for other platforms like PS3 and Wii U, as developers choose the easier to develop for Xbox 360 as the base and go from there.

This is why when studios like THQ are barely surviving and Witcher 2 barely sells on Xbox 360, the gaming industry is getting watered down every year and PC ports are becoming increasingly poor. It's not out of the realm of possibility that the major studios spend very little time worrying about the quality of the ports to the PC and most of that is probably testing bugs, not improving optimizations or graphics quality. A large reason for that is their primary market are consoles, not PC gamers. Very few cross-platform games are done like Metro 2033 or Battlefield 3, which were made for the PC from the beginning and then ported to consoles. Assassin's Creed 3 was obviously not developed around a high-end PC development kit.

If the next Xbox 720 and PS4 use x86 CPUs, that would be the absolutely best thing for PC gaming. If they continue with PowerPC / IBM-based CPUs like the Wii U, we are going to be in for another 8-10 years of crappy console ports of the most popular cross-platform games.

Well, its an Nividia title, can't say its shocking to see it lead. drivers will correct this.

Yeah, the graphics don't look all that great.

Far Cry 3 looks decent, never liked the AC games though. Pretty meh all of them imo.

I thought Far Cry 3 was not even being released until the 4th of Dec?

Yeah I received codes for both games. Not the actual game yet. Just liking the look of FC3 in early videos. I've never liked the AC games. Too heavy on the console port style and I just don't like the game play.

Took my chances on one of the Samsung 840 Pro SSDs, came in a bundle with those two games and a $25 gift card for $140. Apparently the early deaths of those SSDs were isolated to the firmware in review samples. Hopefully that is the case!
