nintendo and sony both have quite nice bank statements, i'm sure...

<< i pick X-Box because bill gates has more abvertizing power >>

why can't you kiddoes get it right? that half a billion? most of that is the LOSS M$ is taking on the xbox hardware. NOT advertising. nintendo spends almost that much on JUST advertising.

and sega never looking good? did you ever hear of a little thing called the genesis? 'nuff said.

as for Tripleshot... i'm insulted that you feel real gamers can't appreciate and love games coming out for the gamecube and will not want anything but the xbox. i suppose real gamers don't like metroid, zelda, mario, perfect dark, super smash brothers, and wave race. i suppose they also won't like too human, rogue squadron, dinosaur planet, SSX tricky, miyamoto's pikmin, or any of the Sonic Team games.

Nintendo is expected to spend $210million on advertising, MS is expected to spend a little over $250million.

i played both for many hours at E3, my preference leans towards the Gamecube. I'm only saying this because I could only afford one. If I had the money I'd get both because both are quality consoles.

I'll be getting an xbox, most likly. If not for the games, there's the sheer hackability factor. Halo looks fun as hell, not to mention that snowboarding game who's name is eluding my mind at the moment. JetSetRadio Future will probably make its way to my collection of games, and if the version of Crazy Taxi has a level editor where you can trade cities with people, then I may pick it up too. Broadband support is going to be awesome, I haven't heard anything about the ps2 broadband adapter yet, so xbox may be the only one at launch supporting it.

I don't see how console developers are missing out on the possibilities of online play. Think of all the people that dont have a PC that may have gotten hooked on Everquest, for example, if it was released for a major console. PSO showed everyone what it can do, we'll see if PSO ver2 and it's pay per month fee will continue on with its success. If it does, I bet we'll see some pay for play RPGs on Xbox...

I believe I read somewhere that MS wasn't losing much money on the xbox, if any at all. That may be incorrect, I'll try to dig up the source again.

I'll still be playing my PS2, FF10 and MGS2 are right around the corner :)

I am a little wary of GameCube cuz I had an N64 and was very disappointed with it, I can't believe they never made metroid for it grrr and I wasnt very impressed with zelda, I bought it the 1st day it came out but it got old fast now it just collects dust in the basement :(

The only games i play now are PC , old PSone games, and the few PS2 games i have now

Maybe an Xbox but I doubt i will

I am going to wait a while before I buy anything. My DC is good enough for now. I haven't seen anything remarkable on the Xbox other than DOA2 and Project Halo. Neither of which are worth plopping down $300 on a system that my 2002 PC will wail on.

The GC looks good, but I have not seen much of the content for it. I just may end up getting a GBA just because I've been learning to code for it.

Final Fantasy 11 (or whatever they're up to now) has been rumored to be a cross platform title, coming out on gamecube, xbox, ps2 and PC. Those were the best kinds of games, because they really set the consoles apart from each other (remember mortal kombat 2, came out for every console at the same time, and you could tell which version was better).

Zelda games are ALWAYS good...itd be the only major selling point to the GC for me.

I am with mchammer187 in saying that Nintendo disappointed me with the N64, so many promised titles, so much vaporware (I am still waiting for the Earthbound sequel...)

Finally they say they will have a Metroid title, but I think the last I saw of it they are turning it into another FPS-type.

As for Final Fantasy cross-platform, where did you guys hear this? Maybe 11 will be, cause it is there online venture, and they want as most exposure as possible, but the rest are going to stay on PS2. Square/Soft is very loyal and Nintendo really angered them with their poor decisions.

On the subject of Zelda, I was a bit disappointed in Ocarina of Time, I already saw the technology in Mario, but where was the story. Mario and Zelda are getting a little stale to me.

I think I saw it on MSxbox.com. I'll try and link the article.

Edit: FF11 is being rumored to be cross platform. It's stuff from the forum, so take it at face value.

Doesn't matter too much to me, I was never a FF fan.

My Saturn,Playstation, and Dreamcast are all collecting dust. Can't see spending money on Nintendo just to play 10 more new games of Mario! Might buy the PS2 when it dropps to 99$ but right now I don't see any decent games to justify the price. So, I'm thinking the x-box might be the answer but that might be just like my PC. Oh well it's back to tribes 2!

Probably the GameCube for me. The reason for this is that I like Zelda games, and Nintendo has a pretty good reputation with this sort of thing.

After looking at screenshots from both systems, I want to wait and actualy play both of them before making a decicion.
I must say though, the new Metroid game looks awesome,
and other than Oddworld, i havent seen much besides techdemos for the X-box.
And shadowedge, I wouldnt hold your breath for the N64, Conker's Bad Fur Day was the last game to be released for the system. :(
BTW, if anyone is wanting to get rid of those old systems that are collecting dust LMK :) i love old stuff :D

FFXI is rumored to be multi platform which I don't blame Square one bit for cause it gets them more exposure and money.

The PS2 broadband adapter is suppose to come out in November I believe.

I'll be keeping my PS2 for a while, GT3 has so much replay value, while I might pick up a GameCube. X-Box doesn't interest me much as it's basically a vcr-like PC with very little games that appeal to me.

<< and it's supposed to have more adult orientated games >>

as much as i'd like to believe that, that is not going to happen. nintendo is stuck in a rut where they seem to think that the only games worth making are cutesie little kids games. i bought an n64 when they first came out looking forward to all the new games i would be seeing. unfortunately most of the games were aimed directly at little kids.

after saying that though, i still believe nintendo will make a better product than microsoft, simply because they have experience in this field and microsoft do not.

either way, i wont be buying either system for one simple reason...PCs are way better :)

I wonder if the PS2 broadband adapter will sell well enough that we see games supporting it. With the DC, its built it, so support was a go right from the start. You buy the game, and you can play online. Thats basically the argument for the HD in the xbox vs the HD add on for the ps2. Everyone who has a xbox will have the drive, so every game can take advantage of it. With the ps2, not everyone will buy it, making it difficult for a developer to justify spending the extra time to add support. I think the same point was made about upgradeable consoles in an article I read a couple weeks back.

Of course, if the price is low enough on the ps2 broadband adapter, or they bundle it with games that would require it, it could help. I'd like to see more consoles support it...it really is an untapped area.

<< FFXI is rumored to be multi platform >>

(- this is no longer happening for a bunch of reasons. Square would go multi platform though in a second if they got a sweet deal.

this is how i look at the console:

ps2 - upstairs dvd player

xbox - downstairs progressive dvd player

gamecube - game machine in the office for platform games

PC - serious game machine :D

What will be affecting my purchase ( If I make one) is when the dust settles.

Whichever console can be developed for easily and emulation works on one or the other.

It has been fun playing nintendo, colecovision, and pacman on my TV! :p

I'm still waiting for MAME to run on DC.........

Been looking for a PS2, but I didn't have money then. So I'll see how the X-box perform and if it's pleasing it will be in my room when it's out :)

FF 11 will be multi-platform

I'm not letting hatred of MS interfere with my purchase of an xbox. I'm getting it because it'll be an excellent progressive DVD player and game console for the price. And it won't be long before someone hacks it into a set top box with Win2k capibilities (not the scaled down version they're using now)

PS2 will drop price to $250 for the xbox launch. It should be an interesting show. Will people opt to pay $50 more for the DVD capibilities of the ps2? Or will people opt to save $50 and pass the xbox over.
