Also, I wonder how many extra PS2 are sold because of people screwing up the system by modding it? A moddest estimate, maybe around 10-15%

Figure an extra 40% sold due to hardware failure after a year or so, unfortunately. :(

and it works just fine on my computer :D

As an owner of all 3 major consoles, the Gamecube has WAY better games than the XBOX. Hands down. The gameplay is with the Gamecube. The XBOX lacks in originality, and half of the games i'd might buy on the XBOX are online only on the PS2 (EA.....).

As for NGage, I think everyone knew it would fail early (according to sales numbers anyway). Who wants to pay $300, take out the battery to switch a game, and hold it like a taco on the side of your head to talk on it? Although, they have lowered the price to $199 till Nov 2nd or something because of the lackluster sales.

i also own all three systems. I agree that at the beginning, the games for game cube were much better. Now, XBox games have come a long way, and are superior to gc games. further, there are far more xbox games. ps2 is now outdated as far as im concerned, and the only time i buy games for it are when they are only supported by ps2 (ie. vice city).

i think in the near future, you will come to see xbox completely dominate the GC until the next playsation is released. I also doubt that you will ever see another console from nintendo. I think they will only continue to make games, and portables.

my 2 cents

nintendo has already announced that they are making a new console rtalking to ATI about it again, and they are going to make another GBA, and the GC games are by far more entertaining than the xbox games. The xbox games are almost always on another system and there exclusives (besides halo) arent that amazing... the GC exclusives are sweet

I think Xbox and PS2 attract the more adult and upwardly mobile crowd who ALSO shed the money for the games.

The GC price decrease is a necessary ploy to get the consoles out there so more software developers don't abandon the console altogether, as they are already doing.

Heck, Max Payne 2 not coming out for the GC on Dec 5 (vs Xbox, PS2)irks me! How can Nintendo not make a huge fight to get it for their console?! It's one of the best games out there right now.

This further shows you that Nintendo management has their head up their collective a$$es!

After a short-term sales spurt, I don't see Nintendo going anywhere with this price decrease.

If you've ever run mathematical sales models, you'll see a price decrease of this nature is a VERY RISKY and DEPERATE MANEUVER. YES DESPERATE. Unfortunately.

The GC's demise is near folks. Again, unfortunately!

you are aware that, traditionally, console sales have really taken off when the console hits the $99 mark, right?

Once Nintendo starts rolling out their exclusive titles (Zelda, more Mario, another Metroid), the sales will pick up for sure.

Why the people who want those games already bought a gamecube.

if you go by that logic then the people who want whatever exclusive games are coming out for xbox or ps2 already bought a ps2, so MS and sony should just stop making them

If I hadn't gotten a scorching deal on my Xbox ($110 USD) I would today be considering a GameCube. Reasoning, as always, primarily being game selection and graphics quality. Who cares what outsells what?

GameCube

- Mario Kart
- Zelda
- F-Zero
- Metroid Prime
- Great low price, currently

Playstation 2

- Ability to play future EA sports titles online (Not a big deal to me. I make sure the person I play sports games against is immediately in the room so I can ridicule them as I OWN! :p)
- A ton of RPGs (RPGs are lame, IMO.)
- Gran Turismo 3
- Gran Turismo 4

XBox

- By far the best graphics of any current console
- Halo (You can never discount this game. It's great fun in System Link mode)
- Sega NHL 2K3, the best hockey game ever created
- Madden NFL 2004
- Panzer Dragoon Orta
- Rallisport Challenge
- GTA3 and GTA: Vice City

A lot of the aforementioned games cross over. To my eyes the Playstation 2, while having the benefit of being established while the Xbox and GC were new, is the odd man out. The Xbox beats it in graphics and sound, the GC beats it in games. The PS2 competes in both areas in a mediocre fashion...but they have the RPGers, a few exclusives like Gran Turismo and of course their legion of fanboys to keep them afloat. Interesting.

ummm... no, you didn't disprove crap because, again, the numbers provided in this thread are UK numbers, the numbers you posted are US numbers.

definitely... not to mention that (IMO) nintendo makes games that are loads of fun. it's not a question of quantity, because nintendo loses that hands down. but i feel that the quality of many of the exclusive nintendo games surpass that of any other console. of course the more mature gamers would much prefer higher nintendo support of M-rated titles (i feel the same way personally), but the current selection of games is sufficient (at least for me). those who think these games are too childish.... well, that's what an xbox or PS2 is for.

the issue comes mainly down to what types of games the buyer is seeking.... i don't think you can really compare two systems with different target audiences.

In total agreement here. XBOX games suck.

Gamecube being crack is not the reason for the increase sales... not all the games released run at full speed, some stutter , load times are slow etc. Plus you also need to get yourself a copy of Phantsty Star Online + a Gamecube Broadband Adapator inorder to play the games :p

IT GOT CRACKED. THE GAMES ARE FREE NOW.

- M4H

there is currently no way for the cracked games to be played on the gc. no device is out that allows you to do so. so they current sales are because of the price drop only.

When are the console companies going to realize that to stop piracy, they need to come up with their own technology? Sure, it'd cost a little more money in the R&D dept, but they say game piracy accounts for billions of lost money every year. I'm sure they would offset one another ;).

You can't stop piracy.

Oh, new hacker-proof technology.

You mean like the Xbox?

:D

- M4H

Sorry Merc, there are no valid commercial means to play the gc games.
you're just pulling things out of your ass now. I would've seen people copi/rip gc games a long time ago. There is no way to rip them unless you have a reader that reads the disc unless you have a lens that can read from the top first.

again, again, i know the numbers are different. i acknowledged the numbers are different. i know the numbers are different. the numbers are different. clear now?

in case you have trouble comprehending, the numbers aren't the point.
