Gamecube outsells XBox 2:1...

"Following the latest sales info, Nintendo officials would be justified if found contently sipping celebratory Champaigne. It seems that the company's latest, aggressive promotional campaign, is paying off. In the U.K. alone the GameCube outsold Microsoft's XBox by a ratio of two to one, while GC saw a tenfold increase of its sales since its parent company introduced the GBP 50 price cut.

In this way, Nintendo provided conclusive proof that a price cut is an intelligent way of raising sales, something which must have raised a few Microsoft eyebrows. Considering that we are about to enter the most significant sales period in the life of any console, the holiday season, it is plausible that MS may be re-thinking their XBox strategy.

While Microsoft and Nintendo are fighting over second place however, Sony continues to enjoy total supremacy. Even in its best week ever, GC lost the sales battle to PS2, in the U.K.by 4 to 1. So Sony continues to outsell both its rivals, even though both claim to possess the real Next-Gen machines.

It is still too early though to claim any holiday victory since both competitors are keeping their Aces close to their sleeves. It still seems that Nintendo may have the edge over Microsoft since they have achieved this impressive rise in sales by simply introducing a price cut, even though they still have a few popular titles coming up.... Anyone for Mario Kart: Double Dash?

and nintendo are STILL making a profit on thier console.

edit: what with Ngage going down the toilet, is Nintendo's future looking brighter?

As an owner of all 3 major consoles, the Gamecube has WAY better games than the XBOX. Hands down. The gameplay is with the Gamecube. The XBOX lacks in originality, and half of the games i'd might buy on the XBOX are online only on the PS2 (EA.....).

As for NGage, I think everyone knew it would fail early (according to sales numbers anyway). Who wants to pay $300, take out the battery to switch a game, and hold it like a taco on the side of your head to talk on it? Although, they have lowered the price to $199 till Nov 2nd or something because of the lackluster sales.

Ohhhh...lookie here! Another console war thread...

i also own all three systems. I agree that at the beginning, the games for game cube were much better. Now, XBox games have come a long way, and are superior to gc games. further, there are far more xbox games. ps2 is now outdated as far as im concerned, and the only time i buy games for it are when they are only supported by ps2 (ie. vice city).

i think in the near future, you will come to see xbox completely dominate the GC until the next playsation is released. I also doubt that you will ever see another console from nintendo. I think they will only continue to make games, and portables.

my 2 cents

Please, please, please, never use the arguement that one system has more games than the other. That makes no difference unless one console only sees 1 or 2 games every couple months.

As for XBOX games being superior, I would agree somewhat. XBOX is definitely coming into it's own now (finally), and it ultimately comes down to what you like to play. I buy games regularly, and I definitely play my Gamecube more than my XBOX. It really comes down to preference in the end, and that's all we can ask for, right?

No, but the "big kids" who buy it themself will. $99 console + free games = Nintendo stock in the toilet.

And frankly, the GameCube is a good Christmas console. It's dirt-cheap, and I'm sure they're about to release Mario's Super Happy Fun Christmas Adventure, where you blast snow at pesky weeds and garden insects. (Patent pending.) Somehow, that seems to fit the season better that the four kids grabbing up the Xbox and laying down the multiplayer Halo 2 ownage.

So what...games for the GC still suck.
Tru nuff. You sell your Console for a song and of course a lot of people will buy it. If the thing was good in the first place they wouldn't have had to give the things away like they're doing now.

Well, actually, they just found a way to rip the games. No one has figured out how to actually play them on a system yet.

When are the console companies going to realize that to stop piracy, they need to come up with their own technology? Sure, it'd cost a little more money in the R&D dept, but they say game piracy accounts for billions of lost money every year. I'm sure they would offset one another 😉.

You can't stop piracy.
