Gamecube mods?

I've been looking around lately, and I've found some info about gamecube mods.
One of them is the region mod to play japanese games on US consoles and vice versa. There's a mod to output 480p display via VGA out.
One site says it will show how to output via SPDIF, but it hasn't been updated in ages. But reading up on info about the Gamecube tells me this is impossible.

Can it be done? And would anybody know how?

I have done the component to VGA cable mod. I took my GC component cable and modded it to work on my computer monitor. I made one addition to the normal mod, instead of just splicing the cable to only work for VGA connection, I made a conversion cable RCA -> DB15. I then added a 3 pole switch to change between component (YUV) and VGA (RGB) outputs. If you're not confortable performing the mod yourself, you can order online (sorry, don't currently have the web page) a premodded GC component VGA cable.

In regards to the region mod, no need to perform this one, just buy the Action Replay. It will allow you to play foreign region GC games without any hardware modification.

The Action Replay and Free Loader do not switch BIOS data banks, causing corrupted font character/symbol text in some games. Otherwise, they seem to work fine. If you have a Broadband Adapter and Phantasy Star Online, you can load disc images from the PC over a local network, including the Free Loader and Action Replay. No need to swap discs anymore 🙂

(still more difficult than using the switch mod, though)
