Gamecube is now going to be bundled with the GBA player for $149

When they announced this awhile back, I believe it was going to be either a free game (same list plus another title or two) or the GBA Player. That was general consesus at the time. Maybe they are going to drop the free game option.

That is what I am thinking from the way that is worded. The free game promo may be history 🙁

If they drop the free game, that might be a bad move. I have a couple of friends that bought one just because of the free game (and the Blockbuster $19.99 Metroid). I can see how the GBA Player is a good incintive, but not as much as a free blockbuster title.

LOS ANGELES, May 15, 2003 ? Nintendo today announces a new worldwide retail offer combining its Nintendo GameCube? home console with the new Game Boy® Player. The combination allows players to enjoy more than 1,200 Game Boy games on the home TV screen, along with the full library of more than 300 Nintendo GameCube titles.

For a limited time, Nintendo will include Game Boy Player for the regular price of the Nintendo GameCube system. This offer will be available at retail on June 23 for an MSRP of $149.99 in the United States, and on June 20 for ?199.99 in Europe.

?This offer builds on the incredible momentum generated by our Game Boy® Advance line, which has already sold 35 million systems worldwide,? says Peter MacDougall, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America. ?Once we saw the enthusiastic reception given to the debut of Game Boy Player here on the show floor at the E3 trade show, it was an easy decision to move ahead with our plans to combine these two products.?

The Game Boy Player is a platform less than an inch thick, which acts as a base for the Nintendo GameCube. By simply inserting Game Boy cartridges into a slot in the Game Boy Player, consumers can use their Nintendo GameCube controller to direct action on the TV screen.

In North America, Nintendo is riding a wave of momentum generated by three dominating product launches this spring. Game Boy Advance is the hottest selling system in the market; The Legend of Zelda®: The Wind Waker? tops the console hit charts; and the combined Pokemon® Ruby and Pokemon® Sapphire are the top two selling titles in the portable game category.

this is the GBA and not just GB right?

No - the player is an attachment that allows you to play GBA games on your Cube.

Right. Nintendo describes it like so:

Coming June 23, the Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Player will allow you to play more than 1,000 games designed for the original Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance on your television through Nintendo GameCube! The Game Boy Player is a one-inch platform which connects to the bottom of the Nintendo GameCube, matching the Nintendo GameCube footprint and allowing players to use either their console controller or Game Boy Advance to control the action.

My question is where's that adaptor that's supposed to let us view GC games on our GBAs? I know the new Zelda game and Metroid have some GBA/GC interaction, but I was given to understand that there are plans for the Final Fantasy coming out for GC to run with something like this, plus some sort of weird "you can play it on GBA and save your progress, then upload and view all the FMVs you missed" kinda thing. Anybody got any links on that?

disagree, those free games will be worth $20 or lower anyways. The GBA might make me get a GC though

Uhm no.. I've never seen Zelda less than $45, even used.

yeah, if they take away the free-game offer, they are retarded, maybe ADD this to it. w/ PS2s and Xboxs for only 179$, itd be hard to buy a cube WITHOUT a game @ 149$.

I have to agree, the gamecube price needs to drop. However it is a great system. I love mine.

I dont care about DVD etc and henceforth retardedness

I just want to game.

Wow, I better get a GC now. Those GBA games will look awesome on my 48" TV.

What is the roll for? What is wrong with having the option?

I, for one, enjoy Advance Wars and I would not mind sitting in my living room to play it.
