Can I use my gamecube controllers to play NES games that I download onto my Wii or do I need to buy a classic controller (assuming i dont want to use the wiimote)?

You can use the Gamecube Controller to play Virtual Console games. However some games are almost impossible to play due to the button layout (Super Mario World).

In my opinion NES games work well just using the Wii Remote.

I use Wiimote for NES, GC for N64 and Classic for SNES.

Also, homebrew ftmfw. :D

I didn't even know I could plug my GC controllers in to the Wii until a friend of my daughters showed us when he was over playing the Wii. Wow, there are doors that open for the GC memory cards and controllers!

Manuals are a great resource.
