Gameboy Advance only $59.99 at Sac,CA Fry's

Is there anything new about the rumor that Nintendo is going to start selling their own frontlit GBAs at some point? I heard it a few weeks ago, and I'm itching to get one. But if they're going to debut their own version of it that doesn't require this mod, I'd rather go with that one.

There are only rumors regarding a new GBA, I've yet to come across anything other than speculation to back it up. Not out of the realm of possibility, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

Nice to see some Sac folks on AT (Davis myself, actually) 🙂 Maybe I'll bump in to you guys at Fry's, CC, or ChumpUSA.

Here is an artical from IGN about the rumor:

Rumor Alert: Game Boy Advance Plus
No surprise here: Japanese publications are reporting on Nintendo's updated GBA handheld.

February 25, 2002 - In some Japanese gaming publications, it's been reported, as rumor, that Nintendo is getting ready to release the Game Boy Advance Plus system, an updated version of the Game Boy Advance that will address the biggest concern with the system so far: it will, as the rumor goes, feature the much wanted lit LCD screen. It will still feature the same gaming hardware...it will not have anything else added to the system, except for possibly a brightness control.
This has been a rumor that's been floating around the industry ever since the Game Boy Advance hit the shelves last year, But it makes much more sense now because of two things:

Nintendo reduced the price of the Game Boy Advance system to 79.99 last month, with retailers selling the unit for as low as 69.99. This makes it possible for Nintendo to release an obviously more expensive version of the Game Boy Advance while still making it under the necessary $100 price point.

We're approaching March, the month where Nintendo had publicly projected a sell-through of 23 million Game Boy Advance units by this time. Nintendo obviously will not officially announce a successor to the GBA before this time, as it would cause potential buyers of the Game Boy Advance to hold out and wait for the updated model...causing sales of the system to not meet the projected number.
Again, we can't stress this enough: this is currently a rumor. Nintendo has not confirmed the existence of any lit version of the Game Boy Advance.

The Portable Monopoly mod looks good if you like electronics, but the average Joe would might not be able to install it. I like their idea, but it's still a bit costly at $35. The more reasonable price would be $20.

yes i also think that 35.00 + shipping is a little too high, when i first hear of this item i thought 20-30. but i cant see spending over 40 on the light, i think i would just rather spend the 10.00 on one of those goofy lights that are external and wit for the big N to finally address the problem.

As a side note not many people actually know this but, game boy pocket came in a backlight version, that was a limited edition only available in japan. I cannot remember what this pocket version was called but i remember it used an indiglo type light (or as motorola calls it Organic EL)
