My Fuschia GBA arrived today. So I immediately went out an a quest to change "Pink" into another color. Well, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME TRYING!!!!!!

Welcome to the 21st Century!

If you've ever purchased a Game System within the past few years, you know that most stores scan not only the UPC, but the SERIAL NUMBER of the unit. This Serial Number then appears on your receipt. Well, here's what happened at three major stores that I tried to exchange it. Note: at every store I gave the same story: "I received this as a gift and would like to exchange it for another color. Unfortunately, I don't have the receipt."

TARGET: "Oh, no problem at all." The lady was very nice and was more than willing to help me. UNFORTUNATELY, the Target POS (Point of Sale, not Piece of Sh*t) System would NOT allow an exchange without a receipt on a GBA. The lady was even nice enough to call their 800 Number "Help Desk" and they informed her that the system does not accept an exchange on a GBA without a receipt. No refund, exchange, no NOTHING. She regretfully had to turn me away, still Pink. I could tell that she really wanted to help me though.

TOYS 'R US: "No, we do not accept any returns or exchanges on items from the 'R Zone' without a receipt." I said "but it's not even opened." "I'm sorry, but that's our policy." This lady was not a nice as the Target lady. In fact, she was Stone Cold B*tch. I could tell it was not worth pursuing any further at this store.

WAL*MART: OK, I figured that I would be successful here. Wal*Mart is known as having a very "liberal" return policy. NOT THIS TIME! The guy at the returns counter called back to Electronics, and they guy game up to look over the box. After literally 5 minutes of looking over every inch of the box (and caressing the stickers that keep it sealed), he said that they do NOT take any exchanges or returns on Game Sytems without a receipt. The manager came over and she agreed 100%. THEN, another CSR came over and said "OH, with the serial number on the unit you can determine where it was purchased, the date, price, etc." ("OH Sh*t!" immediately came to my mind). I then said "Honestly, I don't know if it was purchased from Wal*Mart." Instead of ditching me at this point, the lady proceeded to look up the number for the Nintendo Warranty on their POS. She then called the number and entered the Serial Number. The automated response reported "This unit was purchased at a retailer that is not known on our Warranty System." Needless to say, I politely thanked them and left.

At this point I decided to give up. There is still Best Buy, Circuit City, KB Toys, and even Fry's (although Fry's return line WITH a receipt on an unopened item is a nightmare). But I can see though that these $69.99 Game Systems are protected like a Porche, Mercedes or even a bar of GOLD. I don't think Airline Security is as tight as it is on these things.

When it comes right down to it, I'm not really upset. I can totally see the logic in each store not wanting to do the exchange, and I knew I was doomed to failure before I even started. I just wanted to see if someone out there would have a heart, bypass the system and do the exchange. I suppose I could have pushed harder at Toys 'R Us, but the lady there was so unpleasant that I didn't want to even deal with her anymore. A Manager could probably have handled it, but knowing that it wasn't purchased there, I didn't want to pursue it further.

And before anyone throws the morality issue at me, I was very upfront with each store in that I wasn't sure if it was purchased there (although Toys 'R Us cut me off before that issue even came up). And like I said, I didn't even give a *hint* of anger or otherwise cause trouble, since I already knew that this was probably a mission impossible.

I will have to admit that the clerk at Wal*Mart did insult me by looking the unit over with a fine tooth comb even though I explained several times that it had never been opened. I almost went off on him, but then I remembered that one must be nice to common folk.

SO I post this just to let eveyone know that, well, I guess Pink isn't such a bad color afterall. Especially for the price we got the unit for!

"Hello, my name is Bill ... and I like Fuschia."

🙂

LOL. Yea, every store is now harder to do returns. Except maybe around the holiday season. 🙂

That serial number thing for the game systems has been around since the mid-life of the psx and N64. It's a good and a bad thing. Well mostly good. They (the manufacturer) can keep track of when you bought your system so if your system gets defective, you can still be under warranty even w/o a receipt. The bad.. well your story answers that part. 🙂

Well you still have an option, although it'll cost you some moola. I believe there are some different color faceplates for those GBA's.. try a little search.

Awww.. I was going to try to exchange my fuschia gameboy too. But I guess thats not possible anymore. 🙁 oh well, I guess it was only 43 dollars. Anyway we can paint this machine?

All the kids at college are going to laugh at me! 😛

Those speakers are a good buy, my friend has a pair and they sound awesome in games but, I did not get to hear their DVD or AUDIO playback. I would get them but, I already spent 40 bucks on that damn DVD player deal.

Wow, what a LONG post... sorry for the suggestion that I made to go to Wal-mart and do an exchange.

Now here's a better idea... buy the glacier system... open it up... use a dryer and carefully peel off the S/N sticker from both system... swap em... and return the pink system with the S/N of the glacier... o, also remember to make the purchase with cash, and give false info.... 😀

wow, wouldn't that be pathetic..

Honestly, I'm already over the Pink. And I would have tried exchanging it anyway (first thing that came to mind when I saw that Fuschia was the only color left), so no worries wesbc. 🙂

I'm now discovering the flaw in GBA that most people have commented on....the lack of a backlight really blows! I bought the Pelican Light/Cover and it's an absolute joke.

So for the Million Dollar Question: What's the best GBA Light on the market? Until of course Pocket Monopoly comes along with their internal one. 🙂

(And yes, my other post was LONG. Can you tell I like to write? heh heh)

Well, I was just joking with my last post... haha...

regarding the light... I've seen on TV and ad for a light that basically flips over from both side of the GBA providing 2 light source... but I have yet to recv mine yet... and I'm thinking Portable monopoly are probably the only way to go...

so has anybody else besides Atrac got their order? i'm still waiting on mines. i ordered the glacier one and at this point, it seems it's out of stock since it hasn't shipped yet.

Atrac, the unit is new correct?

btw atrac, did u get any sort of shipping confirmation email or did your order status change on overstock's page? some places tend to ship before they update their webpage. i'm hoping this is the case with overstock.

I just checked my order status on the Overstock website and it still indicates "Accepted." I only received the original Order Confirmation email...I never got a shipment email.

I am in the Los Angeles area, so relatively speaking, I am close to where Overstock ships from (out of Utah). I received the item by US Postal Service. It was not sent Priority Mail or anything.

I did get nervous too about the order, so I had called today. I asked and the nice lady said it shipped on Saturday and that I should get it tomorrow since I am in Southern California. She said it was shipping by US Postal Service, Media Cost (meaning a reduced rate for books, cassettes, media, etc.). When I heard that my heart sank because I thought that Media Freight meant it would take LONGER. I was very surprised when the Post Man walked up today with a box. I said "Is that from Overstock!?!?" He said "yep!" It was then that I hopped into my car and began my aforementioned exchange binge. I literally opened the brown Overstock box while driving to Target!

Hey, sorry to hear you weren't able to do an exchange. I guess I can't really see it from a retailer's point of view, though...I don't understand what possible difference it would/should make to them to exchange a brand-new, unopened anything for one exactly alike save for its color. Oh well, another one of life's little mysteries 🙂

You may want to keep on with the Walmart chase if pink does still bother you. Remember the Pikachu N64's from amazon about 6 months back? Well, I got in on that, and before I received it, I talked to my local Walmart people. The first thing that I did was go to the Electronics dept and talk to one of the people. I explained to him that I got a Pikachu N64 as a gift, the wrong one, would I be able to exchange it without a receipt. (All I wanted was a regular N64, one of the systems that came with 2 controllers.) The guy said that as long as it wasn't opened, there should be no problem; but I should check with customer service. So I did. I spoke with the 2 ladies there and they weren't sure what to do. I assured them that I already spoke with the electronics dept, that as long as it was unopened, it woudn't be a problem. So they in turn called a manager, a young guy, who had the whole scoop told to him. He said it'd be fine, seeing how no one else had yet to disagree. So I found out when the 2 girls would be working next, and there you have it. With a little persistence and following the proper chain of command, you may be able to rid yourself of god-awful pink just yet.

I am also in the LA area of S. California. Still nothing here yet. I guess I might try to give them a call. Did the lady give you a problem about the $20 off $60 coupon when the price was only $59.99?

Yeah you were lucky with the media mail. I once ordered a book using media mail. I got it three weeks later before the day I had my first exam. Media mail bites.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the reason they do this is because people had a bad habit of buying a game system and then returning an old dead one in the package. The WalMart guy was probably trying to determine if you'd done this before it got otherwise shot down.

I strongly doubt you could have succeeded if you pushed harder at Toys R Us as I think they have the most stringest policy of the bunch. This is kind of like "what part of NO don't you understand".
