Game suggestion for laptop on a long flight?

Flying to Vegas for work next week, about 4.5 hours in the air each way. Assuming I don't feel like movies or <gasp> actually getting any work done, I'm throwing around the idea of just installing a game that will occupy my time.

So far I was thinking World in Conflict or Company of Heroes, as each is pretty time intensive (mouse required of course).

Not exactly traveling with a high end graphics gaming rig, but it should handle older games.

I have an Asus Zenbook Prime (specs below). Battery will last the whole flight as I've watched movies for 5 hours straight on it and still had about an hour of battery left.

Intel Core i7-3517UM 1.7 GHz
4 GB SO-DIMM, 128 GB Solid-State Drive
Backlit Keyboard
13.3-Inch IPS Full-HD LED Screen, Intel HD 4000 Graphics
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Depends on what type of games you like.

I would personally recommend Alpha Centauri, or any other "I think I'll just play one more turn" game.

usually play FPS games, but really only because with two kids, two dogs, and long hours at work, I rarely have more than 10-15 minutes to hop on a computer and kill some stuff.

I enjoy the hell out of games like WiC and CoH when I actually get time to sit down and play.

I gotta ask what your battery life is on that rig? Particularly on something that might actually use your video.

Oh, and 4.5 hours is a long flight? OK. If you say so.

Also, make sure whatever you take along isn't graphically or content wise offensive. You never know who you will be sitting next too. And make sure that you have noise canceling headphones or a game where sound isn't a factor. And finally, you probably want something where reflexes and reaction times are not as important. Bumpy flights, confining spaces and external distractions can all be big factors in that setting.

Beyond that, it really depends on what types of games you want to play. Something that is engrossing such that you forget about time and just focus on the game. That makes the flight go faster (for me). I would highly recommend puzzle or platform games or strategy games (4X turn based are the best). For me, I like a game like GalCiv 2, where you can end at any time, but generally you want to push onward to the next turn.

Watching movies, about 6 hours or so.

Funny. I was out to Vegas a couple weeks ago for the same case, and I had loaded up "The Town" on the laptop - not knowing that it was anything but violent. I'm there in an aisle seat, and all of a sudden some chick's tits are bouncing all over my screen while she's screwing some guy in a chair/bed/whatever. Couple embarrassing moments like that where I had to quickly fast forward (and miss all the good stuff).

Depending on whom you travel with, you are never sure who is going to be in the seat next to you. Kids, Someone who is merely going to take offense. Or someone who might actually be interested in watching your show/game.

I personally always go for the least offensive choice. that way, you aren't likely to get someone objecting.

Also, remember that the more graphically intense the game is, the more battery life. Movies just have to translate the movie and show it. Games have to do a bit more.

Good luck.

Mindcraft. You'll spend 4 hours digging a giant hole and wondering wtf you were doing and not save it. You'll then do the same thing coming home.

To add to this, are you flying coach? those seats are a bit crammed for FPS or RTS IMO...I would go with a turn based game myslef like civ or sins....company of heroes might work as well although some moments of that game get hairy...

Go get some good podcasts to compliment the gaming...they are good for passing a couple of hours

Fallout 3 because it plays well on low end hardware even an HP Mini 311 with 1.6Ghz Intel Atom CPU and 9400M, 4gb ram, was enough to play it @ 1366x768 in smooth and enjoyable fashion. Also STALKER SOC is another good one to play on low end hardware and both are great games.
