Just bought this and I'm quite impressed, admittedly it could do with more cars, but if you have a wheel and like sims, this should be on your shopping list.

There's about 16 tracks, and 4 cars*, including one of the best sim cars I've ever driven, ie, the Formula Classic, this is a 88 Maclaren clone and really is a sensational machine.

Good news/bad news.....bad news is despite having dedicated server for MP, MP is very quiet, don't buy for MP unless you plan to join a private league, good news is that steering wheel support and precision is outstanding{typical of PC sims} and FFB is epic as well.

For reference I own....

RACE07/GTR EVO/RACEON+expansions
Ferrari FVA
F1 2010/2011
Dirt3
Iracing

You can go to GSC website and dl a demo, but it only goes for 30mins.
Full game comes with a "real feel" FFB for G27 owners{me}.

As a PC exclusive, there's a huge range of options for adjusting just about anything.
You can race against up to 34 AI opponents as well.

With a few more cars and tracks and maybe some work on presentation, this could've been my GOTY, but alas a quality title like this is ignored by the mainstream gaming press, most of whom judge racing games based on xbox pad performance.

* Cars are V8 Stock Car{standard}
F3000 free DLC....easy install
Formula Classic DLC...easy install
Formula Reiza F1 clone..easy install

I'm literally overwhelmed by good racing games atm,

Games I like with G27....

Anything from Simbin...Race07/evo/raceon
F1 2011
Dirt2 and D3
Game Stock Car aka GSC

The dirt games work beautifully with my wheel, but the driving technique is different to road racing, so I'm a dirt noob.

With the amount of racing games and the quality of racing wheels that exist atm, there's never been a better time to become a racer....on PC of course.

You've still got stale iracing, and there's huge potential with Rfactor2, maybe CARS and even GRID2's not far off.....but I'll have to choose carefully otherwise I'll never leave the house.

I'm just getting into racing on the PC and got myself a Porsche GT3 racing wheel an still trying to locate a cheap pair of pedals. I haven't played anything with a wheel before and can't wait. I've been playing Shift 2 a lot and it's decent, but I want something a little more simulation, less arcadey.

I've looked into rFactor and it looks to be like one of the leading games for content and opportunity to diversify the racing experience. Is this correct? rFactor 2 looks like it will be phenomenal in terms of physics.

Game Stock Car looks to be shaping up well. Any idea what's planned for future updates to it?

re-pedals...

Sims operate at their best with load cell pedals like the Clubsport Pedals, so if you're serious about sims, bite the bullet and get one of the Fanatec pedal sets with a load cell, also you can feel the metal construction under your feet, so you're getting performance and realism in one hit.

I wouldn't recommend a plasticky set of pedals to my worst enemy.

Sims choices.....

RACE07+GTR EVOLUTION.....this is available on steam and comes with some awesome cars and tracks, like the 20 and 24km Nurburgring......when you factor in it's firstclass MP, car and track list, low cost{$20}, forcefeedback, this is without question a must have for anyone with a decent FFB wheel.

rfactor.....

Only tried their silly 60min demo, and couldn't get the F1 car sorted, but I don't think that much of it, it didn't push my buttons like the Simbin games, or GSC.

Game Stock Car.

Very epic and underated game, unfortunately, SP only for most people, you can join private leagues, but what a PITA.
I've tried or owned most sims/racing games over the last few yrs, and the driving model and FFB of GSC is at the top.....it's in the same league and IMO better than iracing which is all "tyres" and cluggy and lifeless.

GSC also has better GFX than Simbin, iracing and definately rfactor, but is not at the level of Dirt or F1 2011.

As for more content, not sure, but apparently they have the rights to build a game around Senna..., that could be interesting.

As someone who prefers sims, GSC is a sensational piece of work that's a bit light on content, but it's content is superb.

rfactor2 definitely has potential to "steer" me away from Simbin.

I  iRacing at the moment, and they keep building it up.

Once you get into it, you stop thinking about how stale the visuals look in comparison to newer engines, and you get totally wrapped up in the overall feeling of the sim.
If other sims could go about bringing the iRacing approach to their product, that would be great. Curious to see how rfactor2 improves upon the physics of race sims, but iRacing will likely hold me content with that side of racing games.

Thankfully, most of them don't.

?

So you don't like organized competition, a clear and understandable ruling body, and as much realism as is possible without the bells and whistles that offer nothing for the simulation of racing (and can be played on home computers)? And all that in an integrated easy to use system?

It has it's shortcomings, oh believe me I would never argue otherwise. ;)
The overall method to how they do things, I definitely favor.

When it comes to sims, the most important criteria for me is the driving model, and in iracing, I find it's like driving on ice at times and also find it very difficult to control spins+ I don't like the cluggy tyres feel.

Most of the other sims have a chassis feel to them which is what I prefer.

Anyway, approx 30k people disagree with me.....

I'm leaning on getting F1 2011 when I get my pedals. From the reviews I've read and seen, it's the most sim you can get without losing the 'video game' part that I need. One can get too real and lose the fun factor. Afterall, I'm racing on a video screen with a makeshift cockpit. If I wanted ultra-realism, I'd track the Porsche I already own!

I think it's an excellent simcade game, ie, it's driving model is a bit slippery{fun factor} but not as difficult as Ferrari FVA for example, of course, FVA's FFB and wheel precision is exceptional.

I love the way DRS and KERS function, and you can argy bargy with the AI, so overtaking can be quite adventurous, whereas in sims, the slightest contact can mean a 360 spin+ damage.
