I bought a 3tb 7200rpm solely for Steamapps, I doubt I'll be running out of space anytime soon.
The bigger issue is with ISP's still enforcing 2005-era datacaps when they really truly should know better, what with everything going digital.
These larger games destroy my internet data cap at 250g.
Why I pay extra for no cap.
That's your answer for everything gaming-related just throw more money at the problem. "I don't care about pc vs console I buy both, I buy everything I want yeah!" "I don't care about internet data caps, I pay extra for more!" Look man it's great you have a huge gaming budget or have dedicated a large % of your free income to gaming not everybody's life works like that.
And it's fine that yours doesn't. Doesn't mean we want to hear about it every time it's an issue for you.
It doesn't help the situation any to simply say "pay more $$$ if you want better" instead consumers should be putting pressure in ISP's to improve their service.

This is why you can have multiple drives.![]()
What happens to the 2GB when you install the patch? Does it simply replace existing code, leaving your hard drive space about the same? Or does it use 2 additional gigs of space for some stupid reason?
you also don't need to have all your games installed at the same time
What? No, you aren't contributing anything here.
And neither are you. So what are you going to do?
Honestly, I see this whole topic as dumb. Just another thing some gamer wants to complain about. Because they can never be happy with anything. And I do understand that there's a difference between wanting better and throwing hissy fits. Gamers, 99.9% of the time, throw hissy fits. This topic is a hissy fit.
If anything game sizes had stagnated over the last decade due to the previous gen of consoles. They may have surged and over-stepped now with all the uncompressed stuff they don't bother fixing for downloads.
Like all things, it will normalize. What's funny is that if the Xbox One had actually gone full digital, publishers would have been motivated to not allow so many uncompressed resources.
But apparently I have no leg to stand on. Cox has a cap, but they don't really care that much. I download what I want, when I want. Only a select couple games get the SSD. The rest go on platters. Look at me, acting all 1%.
And SSD's for games are still largely overkill. I moved Diablo 3 because of Blizzard's dumb idea to allow cooldowns to keep going during load screens. Move the game to an SSD and I can maintain Taeguk going from level to level. But DA:I? Platters. The initial load is long, but tolerable enough after that. Shooters? Platters. I actually think Diablo 3 is the only game on my SSD right now of the 40-odd I have installed across my various clients.
Those with a hard cap, should maybe take some positive action like trying to organize call-ins and bothering their ISPs instead of coming to some random gaming forum and moaning about it. Or if you're going to moan about it, at least present the complaint like an adult. And until then, I'm sure there are some work-arounds. Less than ideal, but a solution is a solution.
Usually it will be 2GB to download the file, then need 2 gb to replace the file and then at the end of it total of 2gb used.
With the crappy internet speeds and caps that some people have not choice in getting, it makes sense to only download it once, instead of re-downloading it ever time they want to play it
And neither are you. So what are you going to do?

The real problem is that he probably does not have no data cap. He pays extra for 'No Data Cap' but the truth is that if he tried to use a lot of data they would cut him off anyway and claim that he is using up more then his fair share of bandwidth. That 'unlimited' is not really unlimited but just a marketing term.
