okay, installed UT2k4 and it works fine.

installed Raven shield, and after sitting at menu for 5 seconds, it crashes to BSOD

so i update Raven shield, and still BSOD

hrm, okay, maybe its my system over heating, lol . . . so i take it a part, and reapply new AS . . .sigh

okay, lets play some RS, BSOD. . .er, ok, lets play some UT2k4, BSOD

piss, okay, maybe my video card is screwed (visiontek x800pro w/silencer4), so lets try a non-unreal based game, lol, sweet! X-Wing Alliance looks awesome on this sucker!

well, let's do some look up, okay, maybe its a virus? scanned, no virus. okay, maybe it's these aspi driver things? nope (info found from UnrealTournament2004 forums)

sigh, okay, i uninstall RS, and try UT, no go. Uninstall UT and reinstall it, and it works! sweet! install RS, and now both don't work again 😛 lol

anyone got any idea what's happening.

(sorry about the short hand, i'm at work and hiding)

*edit* -- all drivers are up to date and only games, Panda, and RegCleaner are installed on XP Pro w/SP2

*final edit* -- *fixed* make sure that under your device manager->computer-> "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC" is shown. If it says anything else there, your games will crash. In order to change the setting, a complete reinstall must be done. While reinstalling, you will be given a quick chance to press F6 (i think); instead you will want to press F5 to give you the option of choosing the quote above. (i may have the buttons reversed) IF they continue to crash, it's because you have not updated to the latest AGP chipset drivers on your motherboard.

hope this helps someone

sweet! i'm the only person who has looked at my own thread in over 3 hours (all 3 hits are mine! I rule!)

welp, i installed in reverse order, RS then UT2k4, and now it 'looks' like it may just work. of course RS still crashed last night, but it didn't go to a BSOD, so i'm gonna update it tonight and see what happens. cross your finger everyone! (like anyone cares . . . walks off into the distance with tears in eyes) :*(

I'd be happy to look at the dump. Read my .sig's URL and run MPS Reports (after you do all the stuff listed) and I can take a look at the dump and mps reports....

the blue screens are pure blue screens with no writing; every now and again i will 'luck' out and get a GPF instead of the BSOD

*installing the games in reverse (RvS then UT2k4) did not work* - don't know why i thought it would. next i'm going try connecting my x800pro directly to my antec 430w psu (there is a possibly i've got a harddrive or fan running off that power connector)

If it's just a teal background, that's a hang, not a crash. If it's a BSOD, you'll get a text-based screen with lots of writing on it.

The direct connection sounds like a good idea.

welp, i checked the power connection and the x800pro is the only thing attached to that particular connection. unfortunately, it didn't fix anything. i didn't expect it to though because it just doesn't make any sense for UT2k4 to work when RvS isn't installed.

so i tried installing the games on different drives also and that didn't work either.

anyone else have any ideas?

oh yeah, just wanted to add that while it may not 'technically' be a 'crash', it most definately IS a blue screen, and not teal. 😛

ooo, that's a good call on the reg conflict, i'll have to check that one out.

also, i have xp pro w/service pack 2.

i'm 90% sure it's not a hardware issue also.

So am I .... have you checked "event viewer" for any clues? So far, the reg conflict issue sounds the most "solid" ... but lets see if event viewer has any "light" to shed.

Actually, not a dumb question at all .... be dumb NOT to ask. Go to control panel/ administrative tools/ event viewer. Let us know if you see anything pertinent.

So is a memory dump or minidump ever written?

Have you updated all the drivers on your system? Video, motherboard, etc? And are both games patched to their newest versions?

Do you have anything like Alcohol 120% installed too? I know RS hates those.

everything is up to date driver/game wise, and there is next to nothing else (other than TRON2.0, X-wing alliance, Panda, and Regcleaner) installed on this sucker. plus, RvS runs just fine as long as UT2k4 isn't installed. . .

i don't have any memory dumps because i turned that feature off, since other than this problem, i don't have problems. but i suppose i should turn it on to see what i can get
