Game Port Problems

I have a Turtle beach Santa Cruz sound card. When I connect my 6 button gamepad to it..... the rocker button does not control the action properly. Thinking it was a gamepad problem I installed a joystick with the same results. It seems the buttons work but not the x/y axis controls. I have deleted the drivers and reinstalled the latest Audio card drivers. Nothing helped. My motherboard is the Asus P4P800 Deluxe. I have disabled the onboard gameport support. i do not believe there are any other bios settings to look at.

Now granted the controllers I tried were very basic and old but that shouldn't make a difference here. The keyboard controls the game just fine when it is selected as main controller. I suppose my next thing to try would be another sound card to eliminate the sound card as a problem source. I have tried manually installing the controllers as well. I have tried every conceivable combination of controller in the setup options with no luck. Any help here?

How about try going into the Game Controllers panel and concoct a "custom" controller? I know my venerable Sidewinder 3D Pros sometimes won't be recognized properly as a SW 3D Pro, but can nevertheless be used if I stop calling them that and make up a custom controller.

Thanks I will try that. My controllers are generic in nature but they should work. For instance when I connect the gamepad the guy keep running in cirlces to the left...there's no way to make him go to the left. I tried reassigning inputs on the gamepad but it's like the puter doesn't recognize the rocker switch control.
