Game Patch/Update Files

I was trying to find the legality of hosting patch files for games and programs on private servers (for free, no profit). In the past I grew tired of sitting at my computer waiting "in line" for up to 2 hours to download a 4mb patch or having to subscribe to a website to have access to a patch file. At this time its just an idea and nothing more. I can't find information on the web to point to either side. Anyone have ideas?

I have a nice FTP server here doing nothing at the moment and wanted to do something to help people for free and legally. I might setup a game patch server if I find its ok to do.

as long as you dont break any of the temrs included in the EULA by doing so...
its legal.
in short... you dont want opinions...
you want elua's.

Would the EULA of the game umbrella the patches also? In that sense it would be wrong. Most patches I have grabbed in the past had no EULA presented, it was "click here to download" type of deal.
