Game of Thrones DVD...must be a bad joke.

All that pissing and moaning was for naught... what were the odds.

Or less likely (but still possible) the overwhelming negative response from consumers at the planned pricing scheme caused an adjustment which struck a balance...making it fairly worthwhile pissing and moaning. 😎

If you don't speak up during bad planning you've got nothing to say when everything hits the crapper.

I'm expectin' to pay fiddy bones for da Blue-rayze.

I doubt that had anything to do with it. They used to charge $80 for a complete season of the Sopranos but now you can buy them for $25. They probably realized they could sell more and cut down on the piracy if they lowered the price.

'Walking Dead' on Zune marketplace - HD version is $14.99 and the SD version $9.99. And you thought 'GoT' was high priced ? Sheet, at least you get bewbies for that $$$ !!

What a stupid thread, even at $45 per season it's not that big of a deal.

Of course, if the OP is still gonna wait until the price hits $25, just to save $5, then no wonder he made this thread, he's a fucking cheapskate.

The production value on this show, or really just about any HBO show (as already previously mentioned), is fucking phenomenal.

I don't have HBO but was able to watch it because of friends that do, so even paying the MSRP would have been worth it to me. I usually have to spend $15-$20 on a 2 hour movie. This show being almost TEN hours with an MSRP of $79.99, seems like a way better bargain then buying regular movies.

Thanks to MrChad for posting that link and making me spend $34.99 that I shouldn't have lol.

oh man, i was hoping there was no nudity. i cant watch this with the fam.

there is lots of nudity in this show. But has there been any drama on any premium channel that didnt have any nudity whatsoever?
Rome? check!
The Wire? Check!
BoB? pretty sure there were a couple episodes with bewbies in it
Sopranos? Check!
Boardwalk Empire? Check!
The Borgias? Check!
....
and the list goes on

The show is totally inappropriate for young kids even without the nudity/sex. It is gritty and adult-themed. Lots of gore as well.

Tyrion's confession was more vulgar than any amount of nudity in the show. "I once brought a jackass and a honeycomb into a brothel ..."

that comic sums up how i feel about trying to get just about any show i want to watch from an online service. i basically cant, so i download it :/

Even if you do buy it online, you're typically restricted to using a certain player to play the file, which may not even work with some home theater component. Most devices can handle AVI or MKV files, which makes downloaded files simply easier.

Heck, I've downloaded movies that I own simply because I prefer having them in a digital format. It allows me to throw them on a media server and watch them on my main PC, my upstairs HTPC (ATV2 + XBMC), my downstairs HTPC (PC + XBMC) or various mobile devices. The freedom to watch what I've paid for when I want and where I want is a pretty big thing for me.

(Made sure to stress the fact that I paid for it to avoid "The Banhammer." 😛)

people really must have things right now, eh?

remember when waiting for an actual release was, well, expected?

I don't see how having to wait a few months for the official release is a justification for theft.

:hmm:

Except that a few months has actually been pretty close to a year. Much longer then a normal release, for a movie anyway.

If the media companies can't figure out that this isn't the 1960s when all we had was broadcast TV and that timely distribution of their products in an easy-to-use form should be more than an afterthought in 2012, that's their problem. Don't make waiting like this to be some sort of rewarding life lesson in delayed gratification because it's not.

It's obvious that HBO is releasing this to get people interested in Game of Thrones again because the second season starts in April. Release the series in March, let people watch it, throw out some teaser trailers for Season 2 and hope that you get additional subscribers.

60s?

Try 90s.

Oh, and try ~2000, as well.

yes--the studios are far behind, and they always will be. It took them many, many years to become pleased with the idea of VHS, and simply assumed that it wouldn't be that popular, anyway. They are always behind, and always will be with the mood and desires of the day.

But this brave new world of digital media isn't nearly as old hat as you think.

depends on the content. If it was never popular, then it would have been out on DVD instantly. With a new season approaching, it is being released as a marketing tool.

Same as it has always been for all types of content. This isn't a specific issue with this series.

Major films are released this way, too--in theater or on DVD/BD. Wasn't the latest craptastic Harry Potter finale (the first part, anyway), delayed about 5 months just to go for the primo holiday slot? It was ready and just sitting on the shelf, but studio aimed for largest potential opening, as they always do.
