I have hopes for this working out, but honestly I don't think Telltale was the right company for this franchise. Hopefully they prove me wrong!

P.S. It's episode-based from what I hear. Half-glass empty outlook: this is going to be like DLC with no base game; they're going to be releasing it HL2 style except if it isn't a blockbuster game this will fail horribly.

Can't wait! I'm a big fan of the books and the TV series, and so far all of the GoT based games have been pure crap! Seven hells this is great news!

I've never heard of Telltale games, but the only developer I would trust to make a proper GoT game would be CDPR. They're the only developer that I know of that has successfully managed to make a great literary to game conversion..

Especially with this type of literary series, making a game from such would be very difficult..

Exactly. I haven't seen Telltale's offerings aside from Borderlands, but I have no idea how the two were considered to be a good mix from my view. CDPR on the other hand would have been a shoe-in to develop.

I guess we'll see!

Neat, their games don't have the flash graphics or super smooth animations of a bigger budget studio, but they do have a certain appeal and seem to Licence the IP so they can use the correct looking artwork/style.

I actually really enjoyed Monkey Island, The Walking Dead, several seasons of Sam and Max, Jurrasic Park and Back to the Future, I'll pick up TWD2 for sure. They seem to be the only studio that have reliably pulled off episodic gaming so far.

So, you've never heard or played The Walking Dead, Sam & Max, Lego Harry Potter, Monkey Island and Penny Arcade to name a few?

I think it's great. The drama in the Song of Ice and Fire (and the GoT TV show) is really in the intrigue, not the action. Telltale games struggle with action, but they're pretty solid for dialog interaction. There are so many interwoven storylines available that a choose-your-own-adventure style game could really be a perfect match. A Tyrion storyline, for example, would be awesome. Who knows, maybe they even have it in the contract to use the show's actors.

What did Telltale do with Borderlands? I don't think they have ever created a FPS game. I have played about 7 or 8 of their games, all of which were episodic adventure games and the two Poker Nights. Sam and Max is awesome, as is Tales of Monkey Island, Wallace and Gromit, Back to the Future, and of course The Walking Dead. I just bought The Wolf Among Us, because all Telltale Adventure games have been good so far. I would expect Game of Thrones to be great, as the last game they made like it won multiple Game of The Year awards (The Walking Dead).

Telltale is doing an Adventrues of Borderlands or something like that, it was announced the same day the GoT game was announced.

I like TT games, but my problem is they are becoming like the LEGO games. Great games that use interesting/good IP's but are essentially the same game over and over.

I went back and did some google-fu; apparently they didn't make the FIRST Borderlands (I only played borderlands 1/2 for a few minutes). They are making a new game based on borderlands, which is why I had assumed they made the first one. Seeing their list of games still doesn't convince me this was the right choice. Here is a full list of Telltale Games for those who were confused as I was ;).

No offense, but you are passing a lot of judgement on a developer that you haven't even played a game of theirs yet. Their games get good marks and are liked by gamers. The Walking Dead was arguably GOTY last year and did win the award at various websites.

They specialize in story telling, Game of Thrones is all about the story, it fits very nicely really.

I agree. GoT is all about plot, this isn't Call of Thrones

That borderlands game JUST got announced, and it will be a story-based adventure game just like the rest of their stuff has been. It will not be another borderlands, just a tell-tale game BASED on borderlands.

I was a little hesitant at a BL game in this style, but a GoT based game would turn out very well for a Telltale game. Again... don't think of this as a Game of Thrones game, it will be a Telltale game based on Game of Thrones. It won't have much, if any combat based on what I've played in their other games as it will be completely desision and quick-time based. It's a complete departure from action games which is why I'm curious how in the hell a borderlands game is going to work. The Game of Thrones universe will be great though. Just don't expect to be swinging a sword around.

They haven't done Borderlands yet. That's all been I think Gearbox. As for Telltales it's hit or miss. BttF games were supposedly great, but JP sucked horribly, but for all of it's simplicity the Walking dead series is GotY good.

They do interactive story based gaming. Which I think WD and GoT would highlight it. Borderlands is them just doing a side game with Gearbox's IP.

I wonder what exactly they will do with it in the GoT universe? A side story? A different retelling of the main story?

I can see why you would assume I've never played any of their games before; I just said Borderlands was made by them (it's not, assuming things ftw). I saw "Telltale Doing New Borderlands Game" in my news ticker and just assumed they were the same studio. It wasn't until I saw the game list that I knew what TellTale games I've played (briefly). I don't play either companies games much so that also helps with the confusion.

I have played a few of TellTale's games.....they just weren't my cup of tea. I'm also never saying I've finished any of their games or put multiple hours in, either :p. I think the most time I've spent in any of their games was Sam & Max for an hour, which I got through a free deal and only played once. I've played Poker Night and also I've played The Walking Dead, but both at a friend's house. Both were good games just not my style (poker night was pretty fun for a poker game).

They do make good games. I just dislike their style of massive amount of dialogue and complex player interaction is all. It almost feels like work playing TWD for the 30 minutes I did play it. As I said before though, we'll see how it pans out. It's hard for anyone to have anything more than an opinion at this stage.

Actually I've heard of all those games but I rarely hear about the studio and I read gaming news all day. That either shows they aren't in the news much or their studio doesn't advertise much. I mean I instantly remembered Gearbox made Borderlands after realizing that TellTale didn't make it and thinking for a second. On the flip side, it took me looking the game list for me to remember Sam & Max was from their studios. I totally had forgot TWD was from their studios; I thought for some reason it was another indie studio just picking up features from other interactive dialogue-based games like TellTale's offerings.

It shows your ignorance to the industry. Gaming news more than ever mentions the studios and publishers involved.

And "not in the news much?" TWD was a strong GOTY contender, they were always in the news.

Probably a side story that has a few intersections with the main story. I think something like that would be far more interesting anyways.

I've heard of them, but they don't really make any game I'd personally consider GOTY quality. I did hear The Walking Dead mentioned a ton of times in the news, but never the studio. It's not like games put the publisher in the title. You don't see every BF4 story start with "ELECTRONIC ART'S BATTLEFIELD 4" do you? they simply say it once or twice in the article. It took me a few seconds to go "Doh!" and remember Sam & Max was from them. I'm just not a huge fan on interactive storytelling in games is all. I was hoping for this to be anything but storytelling, actually :(.
