Sitting at a red light early last December when some moron in a van forgot that ice is slippery. He turned way to fast for the conditions, locked his wheels, and ran into me. Initial estimate came in low so my insurance company sent their adjuster to take another look. Got the final number in. Before anyone asks, "Where's the damage?!?!?!?!?!?" Look closer.

The front of the fender is pushed back. You can see where the line of the bumper doesn't matchup under the headlight.

I'll say $700.

Toed in like like.

You would never be able to tell how much the damage came out to. I'm am totally amazed at the check that was cut. The inital estimate started in the low $2K.

Final answer: $5,318.12.

The suspension has alot of toe in and does look like that. A new rim is being tossed into the price since it no longer balances properly.

What model BMW is this?

Be sure to point out to the claims adjuster what you and the mechanic sees whats damaged, hopefully he'll rise the insurance coverage, and you should only pay the deductable.

I was gonna guess somewhere around that. Does that include labor also? Your alignment must be shot, and that suspension unit must be shot too.

Since we are discussing expensive cars, let me ask this question. What happens when a person with insurance hits a $70,000 + car? My insurance only covers me upto $50K damage (I think). So what happens when a person hits a very expensive Mercedes or BMW, in the $70K to 150K range? How is someone supposed to fork over a couple of thousand dollars??

I actually pay nothing. The driver ofthe van has been declared 100% at fault so I don't have to pay a deductable. Taxachusetts has the weirdest insurance laws in the country. The reason we have so few companies is because the state sets the rates. Of course the system is as corrupt as an other communist nation. The insurance companies and the state regulators are all cronies.

BTW, it's a 4.6is

Is the headlight enclosure pushed out of position as well? The same thing happened to my 323Ci (yours is an X5 if I remember correctly... you bastard! 😉) and it was not going to be cheap to fix. Fortunately, I was able to take the enclosure out myself, pay BMW for some connecting brackets that were bent, and get the whole thing reinstalled and adjusted to where I can't tell the difference. I aimed the light (they're xenon, so it was pretty easy) by aligning it up with the other side's light by aiming them at a straight edge. It may not be perfect but it did save me almost $800.

As for the guy who said you could buy two cars for the price of fixing Windogg's, well, you're right. But neither of them would be an X5!

Sorry about the damage, Windogg, but as you know, that car is worth every penny it takes to drive once you're behind the wheel. I'm jealous!

I think they can go after you personally. 🙂

Have a nice time out there driving. Just don't be at fault and you have nothing to worry about. 😉
