Hi All,

I don't know if I am giving enough information to get an answer but my son is running a 1ghz pIII sytem with XP Pro and when he gets to a certain part of Final Fantasy 7 the game locks his computer up.

I can't believe it's hardware related because we pretty well changed all the components in his system a couple of weeks ago and it was hanging then and it's hanging now...

I was thinking maybe it was the cdrom drive but we changed it out with a new one and it still hangs in the same spot.

I thought maybe the cd was too scratched up and I burned a back up copy and it copied it fine but it still hangs..

I did a little search on the web but didn't see much info on FF7 that would help me...I'm hoping some user or users have some ideas I can try and see if we can get the game to run smoothly.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Jim

Eidos FF7 support page. You didn't mention which part it hangs but if it's not listed, good luck. Some people said they had luck with the software rendering and 320x200 trick, but I couldn't get that to work but your mileage may vary.

I had the game shortly after it was released and at that time, the Eidos support page was virtually blank and I never got into it again. One of the early fixes was to download a saved game and play from theirs. :(

I remember that happening to me a specific spot during one of the long movies. I dont exactly remember how I got past, I think I might have tried the game on a different computer, or tenchim mentioned fiddled with the video settings

if it still keeps locking up your last resort would be to search on the net for a FF7 save game just a little bit after the place you're currently stuck at...~

Well known bug. It happens with the BIGLIGHT.AVI movie on disc 2 is called up, during the whirlwind maze scene. Here is the solution (of many) that you can use:

1. Make a directory (like c:\temp) and copy all of Disc 2 movies into it.
2. Run regedit and find 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Square Soft, Inc./Final Fantasy II"
3. Change 'moviepath' to 'c:\temp' (or whatever you made it), and write down the old directory.
4. Delete biglight.avi. Make a duplicate of some movie, like 'boogup.avi' (since it is short). Rename it biglight.avi
5. Run the game, pass the part, and save.
6. Reset the moviepath and delete the movies.
