this is a huge pet peeve of mine - games that don't have demos!

i like to know what i'm getting before i buy something, especially an MMORPG game because you can't return it if you don't like it. sure some games have demos but a lot don't. I think every game should be required to have a demo.

are the game companies afraid that their game is such crap that if they put out a demo, people won't buy it? thats the way it feels a lot of times.

some games you only need to play the demo to have fun, the stores that sell the games should have them setup for you to try though.

I also hate games that don't have demos <cough> Quake 4 <cough>. Even if the game is part of a long running series that is known to be good, I'd like to know if the new one is crap. For me demos help me purchase a game at release. I usually just wait till it drops to $30 bucks or so, but if the demo rocks than I'm more likely to buy if for $50 or even preorder it. That's what happened w/ FEAR, I would have waited for a while to buy it but I preordered instead.

At least with a $50 game like Quake 4 you can rent it at most places, I almost bought it luckly I rented it and found out I really didn't like it much.

I saw a television commercial this week for "Gun", and I figured I should look into it if they're hyping it that much, so I went to the Activision site, and the only option they offered for checking out the game was to give a valid credit card number in a popup window because the game had "mature content".

This is poor marketing, and also pissed me off :(

Ya if I could then I wouldn't have to pay 50 bucks for FEAR. I beat it in 3 days and thats usually less than what a rental is for.

Heh, that prolly would've just killed Doom 3 sales.

I think it was smart of them to not release a demo
