they take getting used to, beat them like you would any other character in this type of game, stand below or above them and whack teh shit out of them when they come close, but you need to be directly above/below because their swords have REACH. Also helps if you are hitting both at the same time

manage to keep the dragon, his attack as as mouch/more range than theirs does.

Dont worry its the boss after them that is impossible
