Game crashing issue.

Sound Card:NVIDIA nforce audio
DirectX: DirectX version 9.0

Well My computer crashes whenever I play any computer game. Ive had this problem for a while and it seems I have tried everything to stop it. The games allow me to play for a limited number of time before crashing to desktop or just rebooting the computer. I have quite a number of fans in my system so I dont think it is a over heating problem. MY BIOS,Motherboard,Video Card, Direct X are all updated with the proper drivers. A friend of mine says its probably an issue with my mother board and graphics card clashing. But both my mother board and video card are both NVIDIA made so I dont see how they can clash. But if anyone has any idea of what is going on please reply. I have delt with this problem for many months now and I really want to play the games I have. Thankyou

Did this problem start shortly after installation of the Geforce 6800?

If so, please tell us the specifications of your power supply.

Wattage, +12v and so on. (This is located on the power supply, usually.)

Well it started when when I got my Geforce FX 5200. So I bought a 6800 and the issue still causes peoblems. And I have a 450 watt power supply.
 
450 watts means nothing without a brand/ model and other components to go with it. I've seen 115w models outperform some.

what was your card bfore the FX5200 and the 6800 ??

did you uninstall the drivers of the previous card before the FX 5200 ?

if all else fails backup your data, format, clean reinstallation Windows

Hard drive(s) (Do you have more than one? List if so.)
Optical drive(s) (Do you have more than one? List if so.)

You say you have "quite a number of fans" how many?

Do you have extra mod's in your case? LED's, CCF, EL or anything else?

All these things consume power.

Im not sure what my card was before my 5200 fx.

My motherboard is an Nvidia and so is my video card so it would be strange to me if the two were clashing somhow.

I have a 120gig harddrive and just one of them.

And can you please explain an optical drive to me? Sorry in still learning the whole computer thing.

I have no extra mods on my case.
 
I had a similar problem with my GeForce... I couldn't play games for months. I thought my whole system was just going bad. Well, I was thinking about just buying a new PC and then I came across this troubleshooting tip for some game.
If you have forced AntiAliasing on in nVidia's manager in Windows then games are going to crash, so make sure it is switched onto Application Controlled and not 2x,4x or 8x. Dunno if you have the same problem but it worked for me.
 
My graphics card was already on application controlled. I was talking to a friend of mine and he suggested that it might be a memory leak. can you explain to me what a memory leak is and tell me how i fix it please.
 
This sounds like a similar problem to one I'm having with my A7N8X-E and my 9800XT

My system was running just fine with an A7N8X-X, but ever since I swapped the -X board for the -E board, I've rebooted half a dozen times, and crashed to a blank blue screen half a dozen more. All except one time was while playing games. The most recent, all I had running was itunes and nvmixer.

As far as I can tell only two things have changed

1. dual channel memory
2. i pulled my audigy 2 zs, and I'm using the onboard sound

currently I've disabled audio to see if that makes a difference.
 
I have the exact same problem
AMD 2800
nvidia A7N8X-E board
1g RAM
RAID array drive(s)
audigy 2 zs (I had compatibility issues with on-board sound)

I had a radeon 9700 pro that died - garbled text, vertical stripes, etc. Just got a new geforce 6800 GT 256mb. All drivers updated. Now, my system crashes every 15-30 mins while playing games - blue screen then reboot. Tech support at the video card maker helped make some bios changes that made these crashes less frequent, but they still occur. I have a power supply rated at 400W, but frankly not sure if it's enough.

Advice would be welcome.
