Game controller installation under Win2k

I'm trying to install my mad catz wheel under win2k, and I downloaded the drivers from their website, followed the directions, but when it gets to the point where it actually installs the driver (and it's using some generic one for some reason), it tells me it cannot find the file and dies. The generic driver is there, anyone run into this problem?

Try copying the driver installation files to a very short path that doesn't contain any spaces. 16-bit installers often fail when they try to go to "documents and settings" to get to, say, your desktop.

Copy the folder to c:\myfiles and see if they'll install from there.

I guess I should be a little more specific, I kind of fired off that post in a hurry.

I'm running Windows 2000

I go into the Game Controller setup in the control panel, and immediatly get the error "installation failed." If I try to pick the mad catz wheel, and install it, it comes up with the MS Digital signiture verification, where I have to click 'yes' to continue. Once I do that, it goes to the last step of the wizard, and it tells me the installation failed because it could not locate the driver it was trying to install (the generic win2k driver that's supposed to work with this wheel).

This seems more like a Win2k problem...I have a sidewinder I should try and plug in to see if I can get it working...
