Game Controller advice

Hello,

this question is basically about what buttons i will need:

I'm looking for a game controller that will let me play gamecube, xbox, playstation 1 & 2, nintendo, sega

this is for my emulator pc box.

i really like this one but i am concerned that i might not be able to play gamecube games.

will i be able to play game cube games with it? or is it lacking buttons for correct game play

game controller

ps i can't think of when i would need the analog other than racing.

Yikes. Don't buy that one. You'll want/need the analog sticks for most games on xbox/ps/gamecube. I recommend the Xbox 360 controller actually. It works very will with Windows. You also have the option to go wireless with it.

its been a while since i played. i can't remember using the analog sticks. when do you use them (what games, etc..)?

uhhh like 98.999992% of them use the analog sticks

For most the left analog is movement and the right is camera.

Thats for GC, Xbox, PS1&2

I'd suggest the 360 controller or a PS2 clone type controller.

Pretty much every single game makes use of analog sticks. Not all of them used them in the N64/PS1 era, but I can't think of a game from the GameCube/PS2/Xbox generation that doesn't use at least one analog stick.

Wait, there are GC/Xbox/PS2 emulators now that will show more than a loading screen?

More than a loading screen, sure, but not much better than that when it comes to playability. Nothing like the level of NES->N64 emulation.

the reason why i stuck it here is because you guys have so much more experience with game controllers. that's really my questions, about game controller playability.

Ya, but the pc gaming section probably has lots of folks who have played emulators on their pc's.

I would add another vote for the 360 controller. I used a pair of them with the usb wireless dongle. It worked great for quite a few games. The D-Pad does leave something to be desired though. It was the easy choice for me because I already had a couple of controllers, all I needed was the dongle.

Shouldn't this be in the PC area? Mods, go ahead and take a look at this.

It IS in the PC gaming forum.

He shotgunned both forums, because he really wants to emulate GC games.

Also, I thought talk about emulators wasn't allowed? Maybe I'm mistaken.
