I guess most of you don't live in the south... where this is not accepted.

I am from the south, but then again I'm a social liberal and I tend to live in cities between school, home and work.

Yes and Yes 🙂 But as JohnCU stated - this is still not accepted by the majority here in the backwards south (well - outside of large cities).

I live in the South and you are an idiot. The only incident I can recall was a black friend of mine was dating a white girl and his mother said he would destroy the family if he stayed with the white girl.

Edit: Of course his mother was a little loony anyway. She used to lecture him about letting his white friends "abuse" him.

I'm an idiot for making an observation about how girls in highschool who dated black guys were cast out?

That is what I was thinking. Gallup is known to set up their polls to support their views and if they conducted in in New York City it is no wonder the results they came up with. In the South is also depends upon the races you are mixing to determine the level of acceptability.

You are wrong by singling it out as a southern thing. I would be willing to bet it is no different in most non-urban areas of the US and even in some urban areas (read the book that Mystic River is based on).

Uh, yep. In fact, if I ever find myself on the 'scene' again. I'm gonna nab me some sexy little Latina trophy from either Venesuela or Columbia.

The story is out of NY, it doesn't say where the people who were polled live. But I think it's a fair bet they sampled the entire country, and it's also a fair bet that southerners were disproportionately not in favor of interracial dating.

You say that even though the south is probably the most integrated part of the country?

It's kinda like that California-thing. A couple of light in the loafer fruitcake socialists make the news in CA, everyone there must be like that. A couple of mulleted redneck inbred Joe Bob's make the news in the South, everyone there must be like that.

/me checks his own profile.

Yep, I'm in the South and I think you're full of it Ryan. Then again you do live in PC. I know plenty of rednecks here in Alabama that are ashamed that PC is lumped in with "The South".

It's perfectly normal, but I probably wouldn't do it.
I generally find white women to be much more attractive than any others. The fact most people (95%+) in my country are white may have something to do with it.

i have no problem with other people doing it, and in fact i probably wouldn't even notice unless someone mentioned it.

that said, i would be unlikely to date a non-white girl, although i might give a decent asian or latina a try.

I'm sorry - but you can't talk about the south and call it the most integrated part of the country. My city is as divided as ever - with neighborhoods where the majority of the population is black, and schools that are clearly defined by their racial makeup as "black" schools, and "white" schools. It's the same in the town where my mother grew up in South Carolina.

If that's your definition of integration - to you.
