A gallery in Marblehead, MA is showcasing a teen painter's work and one of his pieces happens to be a painting of Hitler. It actually made news because tons of people were offended by it.

What do you think? I think art should be whatever you want.

How is it tasteless? Is it tasteless for people to write books about Hitler too?

Its tasteless to those who find it offensive but that is a personal opinion and people are entitled to their personal opinions. Again should they ban it or remove it?? Of course not.

In the meantime, as the artist pointed out it's not a complementary image and was never intended as such. Quite the opposite in fact. So I see no issue with this. Even if the guy was an Aryan Warlord he'd still have the right to display it. As for the Jewish Lady's "what about taste and sensitivity?" argument, I can sympathize, but I have the right to be as tasteless as I want in this country. If, even for justified reasons she can't take it, she doesn't have to be around it.

I agree. I found it upsetting that this caused enough controversy to become news worthy. Furthermore, it caused a woman to comment that America has lost its sensitivity? This is realism folks. Sorry we don't have some idealist world where all the paintings are of unicorns, but how would that make us any more sensitive? If anything, it is paintings like this that make sure we stay sensitive.

"The portrait of Adolf Hitler at the Marblehead Arts Association was done as part of a young artists exhibit on historical characters" is a good enough reason for me.

You first. Link flag desecration amendment to OT please.

Okay. How do you feel about the flag, the olde Star and Stripes; the symbol of the U.S. - a flag many have died for in serving and protecting - how you do feel about it being burned or desecrated in protest?

So how is that a form of art? A painting of a flag being burned is a whole different story.

The artist who created this portrait did it with the intention of portraying an evil man in an evil way. He purposefully didn't make the painting flattering. His exhibit contained historical figures- both good and evil. So what about flag burning again?

Burning flag = speech

As for the OP, the gallery has the right to show it, and has the right to take it down, too.

Nor do I disagree with it.

\as for the rest - everyone's for free speech, until having their personal rhubarb rubbed wrong..

hmmm - how does a painting of the flag differ from a desecration of the flag?

How does a painting of someone murdering another person differ from murdering someone?

Are you suggesting that painting something somehow endorses the content? Or is equal in action?

It's ridiculous how people shit a brick over Hitler, but not Wilson, FDR, or Lincoln. The damage Lincoln caused continues to this day, and the damage FDR caused will probably continue as long as the Constitutional Republic exists as well. Wilson was the one who handed this country over to the banksters.

Yes, I know that Hitler had more people killed, but at least Germany got to start all over, the U.S. didn't.
