i'm still 5 months away from a renewal and can get a full discount. but the itch for either of these is strong. i can get a partial discount as follows:

Note II: $495
Galaxy III: $399

i think the price on the S3 is still too high. I played with both phones and am ok with either.

you can expect exceptional battery life on the note 2. otherwise, the software is pretty similar sans the s-pen stuff. there's even been talk of the sgs3 getting multiwindow support that the note 2 has.

since you mentioned that you were fine with the size, I would just go ahead and suggest the note 2.

Performance wise it's pretty much a toss up. I have an S3 and it's about as large as I want to go. The N2 really runs well though, so if you are looking for more screen then it would be a phenominal choice for web use and general entertainment but it is big and feels/looks somewhat silly texting and/or using as a phone.

I was rather impressed as it is much improved over the original Note, but still lovin' my S3.

Note 2.

The thing about big screen devices is that they're only big for that first day or two. After that, they're normal sized and everything else on the market is too small.

I have a GS3, and it's dwarfed by a Note 2. And now I want a Note 2.

SGS3 will have multiview -- based on the 4.1.2 leak for the I9300. But other than that, they're pretty much the same asides from the pen. So if you see yourself taking advantage of the S-Pen/notes a lot. Go for the Note 2

I know someone with a Galaxy Note 1, and it's a pretty big phone. Is the Note II the same size, or larger?

I'm getting a Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G on tues. (price was a bigger factor than size for me). I'm on pre-paid.

Thinner but taller.

Note 2, hands down.

I have an SGS3 and I love it, but can't wait to sell it and get the Note 2.

Voted for the Note 2 ... I really like mine. Like it's been mentioned before, if you can deal with the size, it's the one to get. In reality though, I got used to it after about a day. My old HTC Desire I had before just feels too small to me now.

The screen is bigger diagonally (GNI 5.3" 16:10 vs. GNII 5.55" 16:9), while the phone itself is taller, thinner, and not as wide (GNI 147x83x10mm vs. GNII 151x80.5x9.4mm).

Edit: FWIW, I think something that's often overlooked is that there are two distinct groups of phone users, and this is especially true among Note II users. Those who generally use phones with one hand and those who use them with two hands. I've always handled most tasks (at least 90% not including phone calls) with both hands and this was even true with my previous phones (Evo 4G & E4GT). For people like myself, moving to the Note II was very easy and the potential of the stylus only helped to make it easier.

I just bought a GS3. I love it, but if buying a Note 2 was an option, I would have got that, but it is not out on Verizon yet, and I bought my GS3 used for $275 (& sold my Nexus for 225).

Note 2 is amazing groundbreaking phone. S III is a nice phone, but not really all that special except for being fairly high end.

I just got a note 2 after a failed attempt at using a Lumia 920 for a couple of days. The phone is quite large no doubt but compared to my Galaxy Nexus it's blistering fast. I have smaller hands and I have no problems using the phone in one hand. Signal strength for both wifi and cell reception seems to be much better than my GNex as well though that phone really was "old" when it was released.

I'm still contemplating on getting a Nexus 4 mostly because I actually like to run with my phone and I just can't see myself trying to run with this thing. I'm also missing stock Android pretty bad right but there's already a few mods out there so I can tweak some things.

ok, i was 6 months away from a renewal and was going to get it for $500 (not including activation, tax, etc) but a buddy of mine just picked it up for me on his renewal. for him, it was $199 after $300 mail in rebate and $200 instant discount. he's going to give it to me for $200 and my HTC One S. more than fair

this deal ENDS TODAY.
